We have posted about "Taskbar Eliminator" in past which is a great portable application which can hide the Taskbar but shows the start button so that you can access your programs:

Its very handy if you use a dock. Just run the EXE file and it'll hide the taskbar. If you want to show the taskbar again, press the "Ctrl + Alt + T" keys and it'll show the main window where you can easily unhide the taskbar again. Also you can set the program to start automatically with Windows:

It works on almost all Windows versions including Windows 98, 2000, XP, Vista and 7.
Now a new version is available which introduces Hot key support. Now you can hide / unhide Taskbar by pressing "CTRL + T" key combination which makes it very easy to use.
You can download the new version using following link:
Thanks to "Kergux" for the update...

I think an useless program, because task bar auto hide feature is enough.

@Netbox: You do realise the Windows 7 'Superbar' is still the taskbar? This i imagine will hide the windows 7 taskbar as well

As noted by JK, I use auto-hide for my taskbar on all my PCs. For me, it's the best of both worlds, increased screen real estate and my Quick Launch apps right there. Thanks for all the info/apps you make available, Vishal.
