Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) New Version Available

Microsoft has released a new version of its free security suite "Microsoft Security Essentials".

When MSE was released to public, the version number was "1.0.1407.00". Today we got a notification from MSE that a new version is available. We installed it and now the version number is "1.0.1500.0".

The most noticeable change is the new program window icon and system tray icon.

If you are using Microsoft Security Essentials, its time to upgrade your version.

  • My MSE won't pick up the new version through update and I have no new notifications - I am running 64 bit version, is the update yet to come out for X64?

  • VG

^^ try to manually upgrade it by clicking on little arrow near "Help" menu and select Upgrade...
Also check it in "Windows Updates" list.

  • My client reads this..

There was a pre-beta torrent available if I remember correctly with a higher build number then the original authorised M$ download..

    My client reads this..

    Microsoft Security Essentials Version: 1.0.2140.0
    Antimalware Client Version: 2.0.5612.0
    Engine Version: 1.1.4903.0
    Antivirus definitions: 1.63.1637.0
    Antispyware definitions: 1.63.1637.0

I see this is a lower antimalware client version.. I will probably upgrade anyways to get official versions on all computers..

  • Okay it's managed to find an update now ^^ (About Time)

  • It doesn't look lie the leaked version is going to update due to build numbers being different..

  • VG- I have 2 months left in my Windows Live OneCare subscription. When it expires, will I be able to renew it, or will I need to get a temporary replacement until MSE is officially released to the public? I am not an MSDN Subscriber.

  • Softpedia.com, people.
