So here we start the tutorial:

1. Type regedit in RUN or Start Menu search box and press Enter. It’ll open Registry Editor.

2. Now go to following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace

3. Now we’ll need to create a new key under “NameSpace” key. Right-click on “NameSpace” key and select “New -> Key“. Set its name to {7007ACC7-3202-11D1-AAD2-00805FC1270E} as shown in following screenshot:

4. That’s it. As soon as you set the value in registry, it’ll immediately start showing “Network Connections” in My Computer.

NOTE: To delete it from My Computer window, simply delete the key created in Step 3 from registry.

PS: If you want ready-made registry scripts to add the shortcut automatically, then download following ZIP file, extract it and run the .REG file. It’ll automatically add “Network Connections” in My Computer window. An uninstall script is also included in the pack to remove the item.

  1. In Win 8.1 the folder is “Network Locations” rather than “Network Connections” under ThisPC (or Computer if you have changed it). The registry value, {7007ACC7-3202-11D1-AAD2-00805FC1270E}, does not appear in the registry for Win8.1. I tried deleting {B155BDF8-02F0-451E-9A26-AE317CFD7779} but that didn’t appear to do anything. I then tried deleting {289AF617-1CC3-42A6-926C-E6A863F0E3BA} which appears to be DLNA Media Servers Data Source which is my other computer on my Home Network. Tried deleting that reg entry but kept getting Error and it wouldn’t let me delete, even after I disconnected network connection and tried again.
In any case, “Network Locations” is still there. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!
