  1. ^^ Even though it’s light on resources it lacks powerful protection capability.Better to buy a AV itself.

  3. I’d hate it…I mean I’d REALLY hate to break it to you, but Microsoft is no longer recommending their Security Essentials programs anymore!! Just a quick bing/Google/Yahoo! will even tell you so.

    I think I’ll stick with avast! if I get a new computer but for now on my main computer, I’ll stay with AVG Internet Security on my slow, crappy Windows 7 Home Premium machine…I don’t know why it’s so slow…it never used to be like this until now and I reinstalled it August this year!!

    Specs: 2GB RAM, intel core 2 duo, Asus P5E motherboard, some kind of Asus video card which is really good, VMware Player 5.1.2 with a few virtual machines, VirtualBox 4.2.16 with a few virtual machines, Adobe photoshop Elements 11, Adobe Master Collection CS6, Avg internet security 2014, Microsoft Virtual PC for Windows XP Mode (I made one with home edition ^_^), Office Professional Plys/Visio Pro/Project pro 2013, ccleaner, recuva, speccy, the other one from piriform, and I’m sure there’s more.

    AND does it make a differences that I run disk cleanup every month and that it’s 32-bit?

  7. VG, I actually found out that it was slow to load b/c I had a folder that was about 3GB in size on my desktop. I moved it to Documents.

    I shall explain:
    – Because I use resource hacker to make new programs out of old programs, I like to store the results in a folder called Folder on my desktop for easy access.
    – This folder will get cluttered up with other random stuff I make, and stuff I don’t NeeD but want to keep for later.

    I advise that everyone doesn’t store stuff other than program shortcuts and the Recycle Bin on the desktop.

  8. MSE is great! it hassles me a lot less than any other AV:D I Recommend Microsoft Security Essentials. If your using XP, there’s no more support for it after the 8th of April, that is, XP AND MSE on XP.

  10. Got it via Windows Update. It’s a good piece of software, my antimalware of choice.

  11. AVOID downloading & installing Microsoft Security Essentials v4.5.216.0 if using Windows XP!
    That version will ALWAYS display a permanent yellow notification tray icon saying the XP system is “unprotected”. That new behavior will not affect those who install MSE 4.5.216 under Windows Vista & Windows 7.     Therefore, XP users should continue to use the previous version of MSE, v4.4.304.0.

    As far as I know, there is no offline installer of Windows Defender for Windows 8 because it is treated as a built-in application or a part of the OS itself. And as for the version updates, I believe that it has to be updated via Windows Update since there is actually no downloadable installer for it.

  17. Correction — I was thinking of Windows Defender, and not SE for Windows 8.x. It would be nice to have a link to that as well, which doesn’t exist as per Paul above….

  18. Is this installer of MSE 4.7 updated? I mean to ask that I don’t need to update MSE after installing it?
    Internet speed is currently slow.

  19. Could someone explain WHY MSE Feature Pack blaaablaaablaakeeps popping up in Windows Update in recommended updates although I have Avast Antivirus installed. I hid it the last time and now it was back. Apparently some component in there doesn’t recognize Avast at all. I wonder how many people have accidentally installed MSE alongside Avast and then started to experience all kinds of wonky donky stuff. Oh and this happens on ALL computers I have ever been involved with that have Avast Antivirus installed. Seen this roughly 150 times now.

  26. So, I haven’t found any cosmetic changes in the app. And even under the hood. What is the update for? A new build number? Heh.

  27. mse is the best. Its what to have when you dont need extra features like browsing protection, downloading installing protection, paranoia intensifier.. and so on :D… but when all you need is a scanner and realtime protection (which, for some, is really all you need) Then go with mse
