Know Your Mobile Phone Manufacturer, Brand and Model Number

Most of the people know their mobile phone manufacturer name, brand name and model number but sometimes we gift cell phones to our relatives, parents and friends and those people might not be aware of the brand and model number of the phone. Although advance people can guess the brand of any mobile phone by just taking a look at the phone. But old age people and less techie people don’t know about these things. We need to tell them the brand name and model number of a smartphone if required.

Also manufacturer and brand name of a mobile phone is easier to guess but the model number is the difficult part to guess. For example, model number of my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is SM-G935FD which is hard to remember. All mobile phone companies use complicated model numbers for their phones.

Generally people can know these details using About Phone or similar menus in mobile phone Settings page but many mobile phones don’t come with stock Android UI. They come with their own custom UI and sometimes it becomes hard to access these menus and options in those customized UI.

Today in this article, I’m going to share a small and useful tip which can be used to find out manufacturer name, brand name and model number of any mobile phone.

Today I received a message from Department of Telecommunications (DOT) with following information:

I tried the SMS method and it worked perfectly. I immediately received a reply from 14422 containing IMEI, Manufacturer, Bands, Brand and Model number of my mobile phone.

If you also want to try this method to know your mobile phone manufacturer company, brand name and model number, try following steps:

1. First of all you’ll need the IMEI number of your mobile phone. You can get it from the mobile phone box or your phone bill.

Alternatively, you can get it using a simple code. Open Phone dialer app and type *#06# and your phone immediately show your mobile phone IMEI number on screen.

Write down it somewhere.

2. Now open Messages/Messaging app in your mobile phone and send a message to 14422 containing following text:

For example:

KYM 123456789101112

That’s it. Wait for some time and you’ll receive a message from 14422 containing manufacturer company, brand, bands and model number details of your mobile phone.
