[Firefox Tip] Enable “Offline Web Content and User Data” Section on Options Page

In newer Firefox versions, as a part of the new Photon UI, Mozilla has redesigned the Options (about:preferences) page which now comes with an updated UI and reorganized sections. In older Firefox versions, there were total 8 sections present on options page but in the new Firefox versions, the options page contains only 4 main sections. Mozilla has combined some sections to help users in navigating between options easily and quickly.

Today while navigating on options page in public release version, I found an interesting thing! I was trying to find the “Offline Web Content and User Data” section in Firefox options page to check the offline data stored by websites and I was surprised to see that the section was no longer available on Firefox options page.

After investigating for a few minutes, I was able to restore the section on options page. Actually Mozilla team has added a new preference in Firefox’s hidden secret advanced configuration “about:config” page to control the availability of “Offline Web Content and User Data” section on Firefox options page.

By default, this preference is set to disabled, that’s why the “Offline Web Content and User Data” section is hidden on options page. If we enable the preference, the section gets added to the “Privacy & Security” section of options page.

If you also need the “Offline Web Content and User Data” section and want to bring it back on options page, following steps will help you:

1. Open Mozilla Firefox and type about:config in the addressbar and press Enter. It’ll show you a warning message, click on “I accept the risk!” button.

2. Now type group in Search filter box and it’ll show following preference in the window:

3. Double-click on the preference and it’ll change its value to true. Alternatively, you can right-click on the preference and select Toggle option.

That’s it. It’ll immediately add the missing “Offline Web Content and User Data” section on options page.

  1. Also Not available in 58.0b5!

Don’t know which version of FF you are using, but that’s two versions of Firefox where that feature is not working.
