Download “Vista Boot Logo Generator” to Change or Customize Windows Vista Boot Screen

NOTE: It’s a beta version of software so there might be bugs. Use at your own risk and make sure to take a backup first. Also it supports only x86 (32-bit) Windows version. Don’t try to use it in x64 (64-bit) Windows versions. We have tested it in Windows Vista RTM without any problem. SP1 and SP2 are not supported.

We all love to customize Windows UI. Microsoft has put a very simple and minimal boot screen in Windows Vista and there is no option available to customize its appearance.

Today in this topic, we are going to share a free software which allows you to change and customize Windows Vista boot screen.

Here is what the developer says about his tool:

I know a lot of people were disappointed by the lack of a decent boot logo in Windows Vista, so I’ve developed a free tool that should simplify the process of creating the new high resolution boot logos.

You can use any desired image to set as boot screen but it must be saved as 24-bit BMPs. You’ll also need to create the images in two sizes: 800×600 and 1024×768. On most of the machines the boot logo should use the 1024×768 version of image. The 800×600 version is automatically used if your graphics card is not compatible. After selecting your desired two images, click on File -> “Save Boot Screen File As…” option and it will generate the required boot logo file. To apply the boot logo, you’ll need to copy the file to C:\Windows\System32\en-US\ folder.

You’ll also need to make sure the /NOGUIBOOT option is enabled in the MSCONFIG tool (you can launch it using RUN dialog box), otherwise you’ll only get the old 16-color boot screen.
