[Windows Tip] Remove “Customize This Folder” Option from Context Menu

In past, we have told you how to remove “Share with” and “Restore previous versions” options from file/folder/drive context menus. When you right-click on a file, folder or drive in Windows, you get these options in the context menu (right-click menu).

Today in this tutorial, we are going to tell you how to remove “Customize this folder” option from folder context menu. When you open a folder and right-click on empty area, you get “Customize this folder” option in the context menu as shown in following screenshot:

If you click on this option, it opens “Customize” tab in the folder’s properties window as shown in following image:

If you want to restrict users from customizing any folder’s look or type using “Customize” tab, this tutorial will help you.

With the help of this guide, you’ll be able to hide/remove “Customize this folder” option from context menu and “Customize” tab from properties window of all folders and drives. This tutorial will work in all Windows versions.

Check out following simple steps to get rid of the option and tab:

1. Press “WIN+R” key combination to launch RUN dialog box then type regedit and press Enter. It’ll open Registry Editor.

2. Now go to following key:

You can also log off or restart your computer to take effects.

PS: To restore the context menu option and properties window tab, delete the DWORD created in Step 3.

NOTE: If you are not familiar with Registry editing and want a ready-made Registry script to do the task automatically, download following ZIP file, extract it and run the extracted REG file. It’ll ask for confirmation, accept it:

The ZIP file also contains a restore registry script to restore the context menu option and properties window tab.
