What is “Microsoft Update Health Tools” Program in Windows 10?

If you found a program “Microsoft Update Health Tools” listed on “Programs and Features” page in Control Panel as well as on “Apps & Features“page in Settings app in your Windows 10 computer and you are wondering what is this program and what does it do in Windows 10, this article will help you.

Recently a reader contacted me regarding this issue. While trying to uninstall a 3rd party software in Windows 10, he noticed “Microsoft Update Health Tools” program present in the installed apps and programs list.

When he opened Programs and Features page in Control Panel, he found “Microsoft Update Health Tools” program listed in installed programs list. The version number of the program was 2.75.0.0 and it was installed on February 25, 2021. The program publisher name was Microsoft Corporation as shown in following screenshot:

Similarly when he checked Apps & Features page in Windows 10 Settings app, he found the same program listed there as well. Same version number, publisher and file size (1.09 MB). Following screenshot shows “Microsoft Update Health Tools” app listed under Apps & Features page in Windows 10 Settings app:

He was not sure what was this program actually? He was wondering how and when was this program installed in his device without his knowledge? He was the only user of the device so he was wondering who actually installed this program in his computer system and why?

So the reader asked me about this suspicious program. He asked me whether “Microsoft Update Health Tools” is a virus or malware as it was automatically installed in his device without his permission.

If you also notice “Microsoft Update Health Tools” program present in your Windows 10 computer, don’t worry about it.

“Microsoft Update Health Tools” is NOT a virus or suspicious program. It’s a genuine program which is installed by a Windows Update.

  1. Noticed this with above mentioned update in February KB4023057. Uninstalled with no ill effects. Don’t like the idea of Microsoft doing anymore than necessary. This tool maybe great for a lot of users. I like to take care of things myself. To the best of my knowledge you can do the same things the tool does.
