Try This Fix When Your Canon Printer Stops Printing with Error Code 5200

If you face printing problems with your Canon printer and you receive random error codes or support codes (5200, 5B00, etc) while trying to print anything, this article will help you in fixing the issue. The method given in this article will reset and re-calibrate the printer which should resolve most of the printing related issues. I have tried this method with Canon Pixma G2000 printer but it should also work with other Canon printer models.

My Printer Story:

I have a Canon Pixma G2000 series printer which is an Ink tank color printer. It was working fine since many months but yesterday when I tried to printout a family photo on a glossy photo paper sheet, the printout quality was very bad. The colors of the printout were wrong and half of the paper was completely yellow. There were several lines showing inside colors.

I tried to print another copy and again the same result. Colors were not correct and the print quality was very bad.

After 2-3 attempts, printer started printing in Black and White colors only. When I tried a few more prints, printer stopped printing anything. The output was blank or empty paper. Printer was printing a blank paper.

After some troubleshooting, printer started throwing error code 5200 (A printer error has occurred). Whenever I tried to print anything, the printer immediately displayed error 5200 and the yellow light on the printer was blinking 6-7 times.

I checked the ink labels and the ink was sufficient, in fact it was more than enough. So there was not any issue with the ink.

After trying several methods, finally I was able to fix the issue and my printer started printing perfect printouts in color.

I’m going to share all methods which I tried to fix my printer issue in this article so that other people can also take benefit.

What I Tried and Didn’t Work:

Following are things which I tried to fix the issue but didn’t work:

  • I tried to restart my Windows computer but didn’t help.
  • I tried various troubleshooting options and tools given in the software which was installed by Canon printer driver.
  • I tried maintenance options given in printer properties such as cleaning, nozzle check, print head alignment, etc.
  • I completely uninstalled and removed the printer driver as well as all bundled software and then reinstalled the latest drivers but didn’t help.
  • I tried to attach the printer with other computer machines but same problem persisted which cleared the thing that there was some issue in the printer itself.
  • I also tried method to enter into repair or engineering (service) mode to solve error 5200 mentioned on various sites and YouTube videos but nothing worked.

What Actually Worked:

Finally I was able to fix the issue by following a method to reset or re-calibrate the printer.

When I checked the color tubes or pipes inside the printer, I noticed that no color was passing through the tubes. Since the ink was not reaching to the print head, the printer was printing blank paper.

After contacting Canon support, I was able to repair the issue. The support team provided a secret method to reset the printer and re-calibrate it.

If you also face any printing related problem (such as blank & white prints, blank or empty printout, very slow printing, low quality printouts with wrong colors, etc) with Canon printers and receive random error codes or support codes (such as 5200, 5B00), you can try following method and it might help you too:

1. Remove the power cable from the back of the printer and reattach again.

2. Press the Power button on the printer and wait for the green led stops blinking.

3. Now press and hold STOP button and the yellow led will start blinking.

4. Count the yellow led blinks and when it blinks for 5 times, release the STOP button.

That’s it. The printer will start resetting itself and calibrating. You’ll hear several sounds coming from the printer and it’ll take several minutes (approx. 15 minutes) in finishing.

After calibrating process ends, the printer will stop making noise.

Now try to print something and this time the printout will be prefect. You should no longer face any issue or error codes.

BONUS TIP:

Canon support team also provided following method to reset or restore Canon printer to factory settings. You might also try following method:

1. Press the Power button on the printer to switch it off.

2. Now press and hold STOP button and also press and hold Power button.

3. After 2-3 seconds, release the Stop button and keep holding Power button.

4. Now while holding Power button, press Stop button 5 times.

5. Now release Power button and the printer will reset itself. Windows will detect the printer and will add it again fresh.

Now the printer should work fine.
