[Tip] Use Windows Update Troubleshooter to Fix All Problems

Microsoft regularly releases updates for different versions of Windows operating system to fix bugs and issues related to security, reliability, stability and performance. These Windows updates include security updates, optional updates, recommended updates as well as important critical updates. All these updates are downloaded and installed by the built-in Windows Update program. It checks for new updates and downloads and installs them to keep Windows up-to-date.

If you are using Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 10 operating system, this article will help you. Many times we face problems related to Windows Update program. Sometimes Windows Update can’t check for new updates and shows error messages with various error codes. Sometimes Windows Update keeps checking for updates for hours and gets stuck/frozen or sometimes crashes. Sometimes it finds new updates but unable to download or install them. Sometimes Windows Update downloads and installs an update and when it checks for new updates, it again finds the same update and when it tries to download the same update again, it throws error message.

Microsoft provides an official fixit tool “Windows Update Troubleshooter” to help Windows users in resolving all problems related to Windows Update. This tool is available for Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10 operating systems.

First of all download the tool from following links:

You’ll get “WindowsUpdate.diagcab” and “wu10.diagcab” files respectively from the above mentioned download links.

Now run the Windows Update Troubleshooter tool and you’ll get following screen:

Click on “Advanced” link given at the bottom and then click on “Run as administrator” link. It’ll reload the troubleshooter tool with administrator rights.

Now click on Next button and the tool will start troubleshooting all issues related to Windows Update present in your system.

Once it finds an issue, it’ll show you 2 buttons: Apply this fix and Skip this fix. You can click on “Apply this fix” button to fix the issue immediately. If you think that the issue found by the tool is not important or you don’t want to fix that issue, you can click on “Skip this fix” button and the tool will continue the troubleshooting process.

Once it detects and fixes all issues present in your system, it’ll show a summary of all issues checked and found in your system.

That’s it. Now you can use Windows Update again in your computer system without any problem.

  1. Hi, I have changed over from win7 to win10 on my laptop. My laptop uses two accounts on it.
    One as standard, one as Admin. I use the standard in general. Since the changeover on the standard account I cannot use the USB ports or the SD card port. I can use them as Admin. I changed the Standard to Admin, but did not work so I changed back. When I put an usb stick in it shows it there but when I click to open it says: cannot accessdrive, permission denied.
    Also I saw in Device Manager it says by the USB Root Hub 3.0 not migrated

    Can anyone help me with this, I am not very Techy but I ainĀ“t dumb either. I tryed the Tool mentioned here but no joy. Help!
