[Tip] How to Use Same WhatsApp Account in Multiple Mobile Phones

WhatsApp is rolling out an update which will enable multi-phone support in the app. WhatsApp users can now use the same WhatsApp account in multiple smartphones. If you also want to use your WhatsApp account in more than one mobile phone simultaneously, this article will help you. The main mobile phone which you used to sign into WhatsApp for first time, will be called primary phone and the other connected mobile phones using the same WhatsApp account, will be called companion phones.

WhatsApp is one of the most popular social networking and chatting apps available for Android smartphones and Apple iPhones and multi-phone support was one of the most requested features by users. WhatsApp account is always associated with our mobile phone number and an OTP or phone call is used to sign into our WhatsApp account in a mobile phone. In past, if we wanted to use the same WhatsApp account in a new mobile phone, WhatsApp used to automatically log out or disconnect from the old mobile phone. So we couldn’t use the same WhatsApp account in more than one mobile phone.

Now the good news is that WhatsApp has rolled out multi-phone feature and now all WhatsApp users can use the same account in 4 mobile phones simultaneously.

Here is the official announcement from WhatsApp team:

Today, we’re improving our multi-device offering further by introducing the ability to use the same WhatsApp account on multiple phones. A feature highly requested by users, now you can link your phone as one of up to four additional devices, the same as when you link with WhatsApp on web browsers, tablets and desktops. Each linked phone connects to WhatsApp independently, ensuring that your personal messages, media, and calls are end-to-end encrypted, and if your primary device is inactive for a long period, we automatically log you out of all companion devices.

Linking phones as companion devices makes messaging easier. Now you can switch between phones without signing out and pick up your chats where you left off. Or if you’re a small business owner, additional employees are now able to respond to customers directly from their phones under the same WhatsApp Business account.

This update has started rolling out to users globally and will be available to everyone in the coming weeks.

So now any WhatsApp user can use the same WhatsApp account in multiple mobile phones at same time without signing out.

  1. Hi VG, I think “How to Use Same WhatsApp Account in Multiple Phones” is not correct. 1. Install WA is primary account via OTP. Now Install WA on another device. Do not register again via OTP in secondary device. On the top right corner there are three dots, click on that and now select “Link existing account”. Scan QR code from primary device. That’s it. Now use same number on different WA.

  2. ^^ Thanks. I have updated the instructions with more details and also added some important notes.
