Today in this article, we are going to share a small tip for Firefox users who actually like the new Megabar. If you are also among those people who are loving the new redesigned address bar in Firefox, this small tip will definitely please you.

Some Firefox users complained that the default text size of new Megabar in Firefox is a little bit small and hard to read. The problem becomes annoying when users are using higher resolution computer screens.

Mozilla team has provided a hidden secret preference/flag in Firefox which can be enabled to increase text size of the new Megabar. This hidden preference activates Update 2 for Megabar which will be implemented in upcoming versions of Firefox. Currently only Update 1 is enabled for Megabar in Firefox.

If you also want to tweak default text size of the new Megabar in Firefox and want to increase it, following steps will help you:

1. Open Mozilla Firefox and type about:config in the addressbar and press Enter. It’ll show you a warning message, click on “Accept the Risk and Continue” button. It’ll open Firefox’s hidden secret advanced configuration page i.e. about:config page.

2. Now type update2 in Search filter box and look for following preference in the window:

browser.urlbar.update2.expandTextOnFocus

The preference value is set to false by default, which means the future planned Update 2 for Megabar is currently not activated i.e. disabled in Firefox.

3. To manually activate and enable Update 2 for Megabar, double-click on browser.urlbar.update2.expandTextOnFocus preference and set it to true. Alternatively, you can click on the Toggle icon given next to the preference name.

4. You’ll need to restart Firefox to apply changes. If you have opened multiple tabs and you don’t want to lose them, you can restart Firefox without losing tabs using methods given in following tutorial:

That’s it. Restart Firefox browser and now you’ll notice increased text size in new Megabar in Firefox browser.

BONUS TIP:

If you also want to restore https:// and www terms in new Megabar URLs list, set browser.urlbar.trimURLs preference to False in about:config page. It’ll force Firefox to always show https:// and www terms for URLs in address bar.
