[Tip] Show Number of Incognito Windows in Google Chrome Toolbar

Many people use private browsing mode of web browsers to browse websites privately and securely. Google Chrome provides private browsing feature in form of Incognito mode. Incognito mode allows users to browse on Internet without leaving any traces in their computers. When you use Incognito mode in Chrome, your visited web pages won’t appear in your browser history or search history, and they won’t leave other traces, like cookies, on your computer after you close all open windows. It’s a very useful feature when you are using a public computer.

When you open an Incognito window in Chrome, it shows the Incognito icon in toolbar. Now the new versions of Google Chrome such as Chrome 73 and later come with a new feature which allows users to show count of Incognito windows next to the Incognito icon in Chrome toolbar. It’s a very useful feature. You can know how many Incognito windows have you opened in Chrome by just taking a quick glance at the Incognito icon in the toolbar.

Following screenshot shows the Incognito window counter showing in Google Chrome web browser:

If you click on the counter icon, you get an option in the menu “Exit Incognito” which can be used to close all running Incognito windows at once. We told you about this feature in UPDATE 108 in our exclusive Chrome Canary Updates topic when this feature was under development and testing.

At the moment this feature is not enabled by default and we need to activate and enable it manually. If you also want to enable this very useful feature, following steps will help you:

1. Open Google Chrome web browser and type chrome://flags/ in addressbar and press Enter. It’ll open the advanced configuration page.

2. Now type incognito in the “Search flags” box.
