[Tip] Remove “Report Extension” Option from Add-ons Manager in Mozilla Firefox

If you are using newer versions of Mozilla Firefox web browser, you might have noticed the redesigned Add-ons Manager (about:addons) page which is now HTML-based and provides clean and fast UI. You can access Add-ons Manager page using about:addons URL or by clicking on “Firefox Menu -> Add-ons” option or using Ctrl+Shift+A hotkey.

The new Add-ons Manager also shows recommendations for themes and extensions to users. These new recommended sections display promoted 3rd party extensions and themes which can be installed in Firefox browser. You can consider them as advertisements, promotions or suggestions.

Along with the recommended sections, another new feature has been added to new Add-ons Manager page which is reporting bad extensions. Now you can report extensions and themes for abuse. If a user finds an extension or theme violating Mozilla’s add-ons policy (such as damaging data, injecting virus/malware, stealing information, sending spam, difficult to uninstall, showing advertisements, changing search engine or homepage without permission, etc), the user can report the malicious extension or theme to Mozilla.

To report an extension or theme, you need to open Add-ons Manager, click on the 3-dots (…) menu given next to the extension name and select “Report” option from the menu.

It’ll open the “Report This Extension to Mozilla” wizard where you can select the reason behind reporting the extension.

Although it’s a nice addition to Add-ons Manager but some Firefox users might find the new option annoying. Sometimes they want to click on Disable, Remove or More Options but accidentally they click on Report option. If you install only popular and genuine extensions, you might not need the Report option at all.

If you also accidentally select Report option frequently while clicking on other options in Add-ons Manager, this tutorial will help you in disabling or removing Report option from Add-ons Manager page in Mozilla Firefox web browser.

Following steps will help you in removing Report option from Extensions menu in Mozilla Firefox’s Add-ons Manager page:

1. Open Mozilla Firefox and type about:config in the addressbar and press Enter. It’ll show you a warning message, click on “I accept the risk!” button. It’ll open Firefox’s hidden secret advanced configuration page i.e. about:config page.

2. Now type abuseReport in Search filter box and look for following preference in the window:

extensions.abuseReport.enabled

The preference value is set to true by default, which means the Report feature is currently enabled in Firefox browser.

3. To deactivate and remove Report option in Add-ons Manager, double-click on extensions.abuseReport.enabled preference and set it to false. Alternatively, you can right-click on the preference and select Toggle option.
