[Tip] Move Start Button, Start Menu and Taskbar to Left in Windows 11

Windows 11 comes with centered Taskbar feature in which the Taskbar is displayed in the bottom-center area of screen. The Start button, Start Menu and all other Taskbar buttons such as pinned items, running program icons, etc are shown in the center of the Taskbar as shown in following screenshot:

In previous Windows versions such as Windows 10, the Taskbar is used to show in the bottom-left area of screen. All program buttons, icons, Start button, Start Menu, etc were aligned to left corner of the Taskbar.

If you find the new centered Taskbar uncomfortable to use and annoying, you can disable the new centered Taskbar feature and restore the classic Taskbar behavior by moving the Taskbar to left-side as shown in following screenshot:

Windows 11 allows users to move the Taskbar to bottom-left corner like previous Windows versions or keep the Taskbar in center.

Following steps will help you in moving Start button, Start Menu and Taskbar to left in Windows 11 operating system:

1. Right-click on the empty area in Taskbar and select “Taskbar Settings” option. It’ll open Taskbar settings page.

Alternatively, you can open the same page using Settings app from Start Menu or by pressing WIN+I keys together and then go to “Personalization -> Taskbar” section.

2. On Taskbar settings page, you’ll see following option at the bottom of the page:

To disable centered Taskbar and move the Taskbar to left, click on the drop-down box given next to “Taskbar alignment” option and select “Left” option from the drop-down list.

That’s it. It’ll immediately put Start Button, Start Menu and Taskbar to the left-side area.

PS: In future, if you decide to enable centered Taskbar again, restore the above mentioned “Taskbar alignment” to “Center“.

BONUS TIP FOR ADVANCED USERS

Experts can also modify TaskbarAl DWORD present under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced key in Registry Editor to direct change the alignment of Taskbar. The value 1 means Center and 0 means Left.
