[Tip] How to Block All TV Channels and Services in Tata Play Set Top Box

Many times we need to block or lock all TV channels in our DTH Set Top Box (STB) to restrict others from watching them. For example, we want to restrict our children from watching TV during their exams or we want to restrict our family members or roommates from watching TV in late night when we want to sleep. Recently I found myself in similar situation when I organized a party in my house and I wanted to prevent everyone from watching TV so that all guests can enjoy the party. I don’t like people watching TV while others are talking or discussing something.

As many readers know I have Tata Play (formerly known as Tata Sky) connection in my house, I discovered a new feature in Tata Sky set top box which was introduced in recent software update. Now Tata Sky allows subscribers to lock all TV channels and services in their set top boxes.

In past we could lock only 20 channels in Tata Sky STB using Parental Control feature. Later the limit was increased to 50 TV channels. But what if we want to lock all TV channels in our set top box?

Tata Sky has added a new option called “Master Lock” which allows users to block viewing all TV channels, services, On Demand videos and recorded programs (on PVR boxes). If you turn on Master Lock option, it’ll lock all channels and services. To unlock the channels, users will need to enter 4-digit PIN code which is set under Parental Control feature.

If you also need to lock or restrict all TV channels and services in your Tata Sky set top box, you can follow these simple steps:

1. Switch on your TV and Tata Sky set top box. Now press “Organiser” (or Settings button in new remotes) button on your Tata Sky remote.

2. Now select Parental Control option from the menu.

3. It’ll ask for the PIN code. Enter your PIN code. The default PIN code is 0000. If you don’t know the PIN code, you can contact Tata Sky customer care and ask them the PIN code. They’ll tell you the correct PIN code of your set top box. They can also reset the PIN code to default 0000 in your set top box.

4. Once you enter correct PIN code, it’ll open Parental Control options list. Now select “Channel Lockout” option.

PS: If you want to change your PIN code, you can change it using “Change PIN” option.

5. Under Channel Lockout section, you’ll see “Master Lock” option. Select it.

6. To enable Master Lock, set the option to ON and press Blue button on your Tata Sky remote to save settings.

That’s it. It’ll immediately lock all TV channels and Tata Sky services in your set top box. All TV channels will show following message:

Now no one will be able to watch TV channels in your Tata Sky set top box until they enter correct PIN code.

To unblock channels and services, you can set the Master Lock option to OFF in Parental Control section.
