[Tip] How to Block or Disable Images in Mozilla Firefox
Many times Mozilla Firefox users ask me how to block or disable images in their web browser? Many users may want to disable image loading on websites due to several reasons. One reason might be speed up website loading on slow Internet connections as most of the times huge images take time in downloading and displaying in web browsers. Some users may want to turn off images to save their Internet connection bandwidth if they are using limited bandwidth connection.
Another reason to disable or block images might be offensive images shown by some websites. I have also noticed some reputed websites showing unacceptable images inside ads on several pages. So users may want to block those images while browsing websites.
Today in this tutorial, I’ll tell you how to block or disable or hide images in Mozilla Firefox web browser. You’ll be able to block all images on all websites or block only 3rd party websites images or block images on a particular website only with the help of this tutorial.

METHOD 1. Block Images from Selected Website Only
If you want to disable or block images only on a particular website which is showing offensive images, you can follow following steps to block images from that particular website:
1. Open the website and right-click on the image and select “View Image Info” option.
2. It’ll open Page Info window. You’ll see “Block Images from website URL” checkbox.
3. Select the “Block Images from website URL” option and you are done.
Now whenever you’ll open that website, images will no longer load and display.

PS: In future, if you decide to unblock and display images from that website again, open the website, right-click on webpage and select “View Page Info” option. It’ll open Page Info window. Go to “Media” tab and select any image given in the list and you’ll notice that “Block Images from website URL” option is enabled. Uncheck the option and you have successfully unblocked website from loading images.
METHOD 2. Block/Disable Images on Selected Website Only
There is another way to prevent a particular website from loading images in Firefox web browser.
1. Open the website and right-click on the webpage and select “View Page Info” option.
2. It’ll open Page Info window. Go to “Permissions” tab and look for “Load Images” option.
3. Uncheck “Use Default” checkbox and select “Block” radio button.
That’s it. Now Firefox will never load images on the selected website.
PS: In future, if you decide to unblock and display images from that website again, open the website, right-click on webpage and select “View Page Info” option. It’ll open Page Info window. Go to “Permissions” tab and look for “Load Images” option. Select and enable “Use Default” checkbox. That’s it. You have successfully unblocked website from loading images.
METHOD 3: Block All Images on All Websites in Firefox
If you want to block and disable all images on all websites in Firefox web browser to speed up loading and browse websites in text-only format, following method will help you:
1. Open Mozilla Firefox and type about:config in the addressbar and press Enter. It’ll show you a warning message, click on “I accept the risk!” button. It’ll open Firefox’s hidden secret advanced configuration page i.e. about:config page.
2. Now type default.image in Search filter box and look for following preference in the window:
permissions.default.image
This preference value is set to 1 by default which means Firefox will always load images on all websites.
3. To block all images on all websites, double-click on permissions.default.image preference and set it to 2 to never load images on websites.
You can also set the preference to 3 to load images from same website only and block images from 3rd party websites.
PS: To restore images loading on all websites in Firefox, set the value of above mentioned preference to 1 again.
Option 1 and 2 not anymore in FF 74
This is obsolete. These checkboxes removed from “View Page Info” . No option to block images. The only thing you can do is to hunt for an Extension or change the FF permissions to block images.
