It’s a good news for dark UI lovers who use Dark theme or Dark mode in Windows and software programs. Now-a-days almost all operating systems and apps come with built-in Dark theme mode.

There is no way to force or manually activate or enable Dark theme mode in Google Search. The option to turn on/off Dark theme will be available to you only when Google rolls out Dark theme for your Google account.

Once your account receives new Dark theme mode, you’ll see following message or banner at the top of Google Search page:

Dark theme is now available

Turn it on for a more comfortable reading experience while you search.

If you click on “No thanks” button, the notification message will disappear. To activate and enable Dark theme mode, click on “Turn on” button.

Once you click on “Turn on” button, Google Search will open Search Settings page and you’ll see a new “Appearance” tab added to Settings page which was not available in past.

If you are using Dark theme mode in your operating system such as Windows (More info), you can select “Device default” option and Google Search will respect your operating system Dark mode setting and will apply Dark theme.

If you are not using Dark theme in operating system but want to enjoy new Dark theme mode in Google Search, select “Dark theme” option.

That’s it. You’ll have new Dark theme mode activated and enabled in Google Search website.

PS: In future, if you decide to restore White or Light theme mode in Google Search, click on Settings (Cog wheel) icon present at the top-right corner of Google Search page and select “Search settings” option. It’ll open Google Search settings page. Now go to Appearance tab and select “Light theme” option and click on Save button to reset Google Search theme to default light mode.
