[Tip] Force WhatsApp to Always Send and Share Your High Quality Photos in Original Resolution

We all share our videos and photos with our friends, relatives, colleagues using popular messenger app “WhatsApp” in our smartphones. You might have noticed that when you send a photo or video using WhatsApp, it automatically resizes the photo and sends a low quality compressed version of the image to the receiver mobile phone.

Even if you took a high quality pic using your premium mobile phone, WhatsApp reduces the photo quality and sends the converted photo to your contact’s mobile phone.

It happens due to a built-in feature or functionality of WhatsApp to minimize or reduce data usage. When you take a photo using your smartphone camera, the photo is taken in high resolution as we know now-a-days all smartphones come with several megapixels camera. Due to high resolution or high quality, the image size becomes very large.

When you share the photo using WhatsApp, it compresses the photo to reduce its file size. It happens to minimize Internet connection bandwidth usage by sender and receiver mobile phone. If WhatsApp sends photo in original quality and high resolution, both sender and the receiver mobile phone will waste lots of MB of Internet data in uploading and downloading the HQ photo. But since WhatsApp automatically compresses the photo and reduces its size, the sender and receiver mobile phone consume very less Internet data in sending and downloading the image.

Although it’s a good feature of WhatsApp but sometimes you might want to share your photos in original resolution and high quality to showcase your mobile phone’s camera quality, etc and when WhatsApp reduces image quality, it might irritate you.

Fortunately, there is a way to prevent or restrict WhatsApp from automatically compressing photos and reducing their resolution. You can modify a setting in WhatsApp to force the app to send photos in original high quality to your contacts.

I don’t know when this new option was added to WhatsApp. I just noticed it yesterday while changing WhatsApp settings in my smartphone. I found this new option useful and decided to post an article for it.

If you also want to share and send high quality photos in original resolution using WhatsApp, following steps will help you:

1. Open WhatsApp on your mobile phone, tap on 3 vertical dots menu present at the top-right corner and select Settings option.

2. Now tap on “Storage and data” option.

3. Now look for “Media upload quality” option. This is the option which tells WhatsApp whether it should compress the photos or not.

At the moment, only one option is available to customize the quality of uploaded photos. I couldn’t find any option to set the quality of uploaded videos. I think the option to change video upload quality will be added in future versions of WhatsApp.

By default, the “Photo upload quality” option is set to “Auto (recommended)” which means WhatsApp will reduce the photo quality.

To force WhatsApp to send original high quality photos, tap on the option and select “Best quality” option and tap on OK button to apply changes.

That’s it. Now WhatsApp will always upload and send your photos in high quality and high resolution.

In future, if you decide to restore default setting and share photos in low quality to reduce data usage, set the above mentioned option to “Data saver” or “Auto (recommended)” again.
