[Tip] Enable Redesigned “New Tab Page Customization Menu” in Google Chrome

When you open a new tab in Google Chrome web browser, you get a “Customize” button at the bottom-right corner of NTP (new tab page) to change look-n-feel of the new tab page. When you click on “Customize” button, Chrome shows options such as Chrome backgrounds, Upload an image, Restore default shortcuts and Restore default background in the customization menu as shown in following screenshot:

New versions of Google Chrome web browser such as Chrome 76 and later come with a redesigned NTP customization menu which is called version 2.0 by Chrome team. This new customization menu replaces the classic pop-up menu with a customization window containing all previous options as shown in following screenshot:

Today in this tutorial, we’ll tell you how to activate and enable this new hidden secret NTP customization menu 2.0 in Google Chrome web browser. This tutorial will also help you in adding another secret menu “Color and Theme” to the new customization window.

We told you about this secret tip in UPDATE 116 in our exclusive Google Chrome Canary Updates topic when Chrome 76.0 version was under development and testing.

If you are using newer versions of Google Chrome browser and want to reveal the new advanced and modern NTP customization menu version 2.0, following steps will help you:

1. Open Google Chrome web browser and type chrome://flags/ in addressbar and press Enter. It’ll open the advanced configuration page.

2. Now type NTP customization in the “Search flags” box.

It’ll directly go to following options:

3. To enable the brand new NTP customization menu version 2.0, select Enabled from the drop-down box for both options.

4. Google Chrome will ask you to restart the browser. Click on “Relaunch now” button to restart Google Chrome.

That’s it. You have successfully activated and enabled New Tab Page customization menu version 2.0 in Google Chrome.

Now open a new tab page and click on “Customize” button and you’ll get the new redesigned customization window showing Background, Shortcuts and Color and theme tabs.

NOTE: The new customization menu is still under development, that’s why the Shortcuts and Color and Theme tabs are not working at the moment. In future versions, all tabs will work properly.

PS: If you want to disable the new NTP customization menu and restore previous menu in future, select “Default” option from the drop-down box for both options and restart the browser.
