[Tip] Enable New Secret UI of Add-ons Manager (About:Addons) in Mozilla Firefox

Recently Mozilla introduced new Card UI in Add-ons Manager (about:addons) page of Firefox web browser. All sections such as extensions, themes, plugins, etc started displaying using new Card style UI.

Several users didn’t like the new Card UI of Add-ons Manager. Mozilla listened to the users feedback and decided to replace the Card UI with a new redesigned HTML based UI.

The recently released Firefox 67 and later versions come with a new hidden secret UI for about:addons page which is currently under development and testing. This new UI is not enabled by default. We told you about this new UI in UPDATE 131 of our exclusive Firefox Nightly Updates topic when Firefox 67 version was under development.

You can see a new 3-dots menu has been added to the add-ons list to access options such as disable, remove, more options, etc.

The new HTML based UI is faster and cleaner than the previous Card UI of Add-ons Manager.

Mozilla has provided a hidden preference/flag to activate and enable the new HTML based UI in Add-ons Manager. Interested users can enjoy and test the new UI of about:addons page right now.

If you also want to test the new Add-ons Manager UI in Firefox, following steps will help you:

1. Open Mozilla Firefox and type about:config in the addressbar and press Enter. It’ll show you a warning message, click on “I accept the risk!” button. It’ll open Firefox’s hidden secret advanced configuration page i.e. about:config page.

2. Now type aboutaddons in Search filter box and it’ll show following preference in the window:

extensions.htmlaboutaddons.enabled

The preference value is set to false by default, which means the new HTML based UI is currently disabled in Firefox browser.

3. To manually activate and enable new HTML based UI in Add-ons Manager in Firefox, double-click on extensions.htmlaboutaddons.enabled preference and set it to true. Alternatively, you can right-click on the preference and select Toggle option.

That’s it. Now open Add-ons Manager (about:addons) in Firefox and enjoy the new UI.

PS: To restore the previous Card UI of about:addons page, set the value of above mentioned preference to false again.

BONUS TIP:

The new HTML based UI of Add-ons Manager is currently under development and you may find bugs and issues in the new UI. If you are using Firefox Nightly builds, the new UI is working perfectly. In fact, you can enable another preference extensions.abuseReport.enabled in about:config page to add new Report option to report any extension to Mozilla team.
