[Tip] Enable New “Memories” History Feature in Google Chrome

This article will help you in enabling a new hidden secret feature called “Memories” in Google Chrome 92 and later versions.

Memories is a new feature introduced in Chrome browser which can be considered as an extension to built-in history feature. This feature is disabled by default and interested users need to manually activate and enable it by modifying a hidden preference/flag as mentioned in this article.

Memories feature comes with a dedicated page in Chrome which can be accessed using chrome://memories URL in Chrome address bar. Since the feature is disabled by default, if you’ll try to access the page, you’ll get following error page:

This site can’t be reached.

The webpage at chrome://memories/ might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.

ERR_INVALID_URL

But when you enable the feature by following the steps given below, it shows your browsing history in a card UI as shown in following screenshot:

It displays recently visited pages and searches from your bookmarks and browsing history.

The feature is currently under development and improvements will be made to the functionality and UI in coming versions of Chrome.

If you want to enable and test drive Memories feature in Chrome 92 and later versions, following steps will help you:

1. Open Google Chrome web browser and type chrome://flags/ in address bar and press Enter. It’ll open the advanced configuration page.

2. Now type memories in the “Search flags” box.

You’ll get following 2 options:

Memories
Enables chrome://memories. – Mac, Windows, Linux, Chrome OS, Android
#memories

Memories Debug
Show debug information for chrome://memories. – Mac, Windows, Linux, Chrome OS
#memories-debug

3. To activate and enable Memories feature in Chrome, select Enabled from the drop-down box for both options or only Memories option.

4. Google Chrome will ask you to restart the browser. Click on “Relaunch now” button to restart Google Chrome.

That’s it. You have successfully activated and enabled Memories feature in Chrome.

Now you can start using Memories feature by typing chrome://memories URL Chrome address bar.

PS: In future, if you decide to disable or remove Memories feature, select “Default” option from the drop-down box for above mentioned options and restart the browser.
