[Tip] Enable New “Desktop Sharing Hub” Feature in Google Chrome

UPDATE: The tip to enable Desktop Sharing Hub feature given in this article will work in both Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge web browsers as mentioned here.

This article will help you in activating and enabling a new hidden secret feature called “Desktop Sharing Hub” in Google Chrome 92 and later versions.

Recently released 92 and later versions of Google Chrome web browser come with a hidden secret Sharing feature which allows users to share the current webpage in following ways:

  • Copy webpage link
  • Generate QR code to share
  • Cast current tab to other devices
  • Save webpage as HTML on user’s computer

Once enabled, the Share feature adds its icon or button to Chrome address bar as well as 3-Dots App menu.

Following screenshot shows new Desktop Sharing Hub feature icon present in Chrome address bar:

You can click on the Sharing icon and Chrome shows available options for sharing the page.

Following screenshot shows new Desktop Sharing Hub feature option present in Chrome 3-dots menu:

You can click on Chrome 3-dots menu and you’ll find new “Share” menu present in the options list. When you select “Share” menu, it opens all available options as mentioned above.

The feature is currently under development and more options and functionality might be added in future.

At the moment, Sharing Hub feature is disabled by default and interested Chrome users need to manually activate and enable it by modifying a hidden preference/flag.

If you also want to test drive new Sharing Hub feature in Chrome 92 and later versions, following steps will help you:

1. Open Google Chrome web browser and type chrome://flags/ in address bar and press Enter. It’ll open the advanced configuration page.

2. Now type sharing hub in the “Search flags” box.

You’ll get following 2 options:

Desktop Sharing Hub in App Menu
Enables the Chrome Sharing Hub in the 3-dot menu for desktop. – Mac, Windows, Linux, Chrome OS

Desktop Sharing Hub in Omnibox
Enables the Chrome Sharing Hub in the omnibox for desktop. – Mac, Windows, Linux, Chrome OS

3. To activate and enable Sharing Hub feature in Chrome 3-dots menu as well as address bar, select Enabled from the drop-down box for both options.

4. Google Chrome will ask you to restart the browser. Click on “Relaunch now” button to restart Google Chrome.

That’s it. You have successfully activated and enabled Desktop Sharing Hub feature in Chrome.

Now you can start using Share feature by clicking on its icon present in Chrome address bar or 3-dots menu.

PS: In future, if you decide to disable or remove Desktop Sharing Hub feature, select “Default” option from the drop-down box for above mentioned options and restart the browser.
