[Tip] Enable Hidden Secret “Ultimate Performance” Power Plan in Windows 10

Today in this tutorial, we are going to tell you how to activate and enable a hidden secret power plan (power scheme) called “Ultimate Performance” in Windows 10 newer versions.

What is “Ultimate Performance” Power Plan in Windows 10?

“Ultimate Performance” is a new power plan or power scheme which is present in newer Windows 10 versions. It was introduced in Windows 10 build 17101.

This new power plan has been added to provide ultimate performance on higher end PCs. According to Microsoft, this new power policy has been built on the existing “High Performance” power policy and it goes a step further to eliminate micro-latencies associated with fine grained power management techniques.

So if you have a powerful PC and want to improve your computer performance, you should definitely activate the “Ultimate Performance” power plan on your computer.

Keep in mind this power plan may directly impact system hardware and consume more power than the default balanced plan. The “Ultimate Performance” power plan is not available on battery powered systems.

Why “Ultimate Performance” Power Plan is Hidden in Windows 10?

This new power plan is not available in all Windows 10 versions. It was introduced for a specific Windows 10 edition called “Windows 10 Pro for Workstations“. So if you are not using this particular Windows 10 version, you’ll not see “Ultimate Performance” power plan in Power Options.

Windows 10 checks for the installed edition type and if it detects a different edition, it automatically hides “Ultimate Performance” power plan. That’s why it’s hidden by default. But this power plan exists in all Windows 10 editions and can be activated and enabled using a simple method given below.

How to Activate and Enable “Ultimate Performance” Power Plan in Windows 10?

Since “Ultimate Performance” power plan is present in all Windows 10 editions but Windows 10 hides it from the users, we can enable it forcefully by activating it using a simple command. Once we activate and enable it, this new power plan will be added to Power Options and we’ll be able to apply it.

If you are using a newer Windows 10 version and want to enable this hidden secret power plan in your computer system, following steps will help you:

1. Open Command Prompt as Administrator using any method given in this tutorial.

2. Now type following command in Command Prompt window and press Enter key to execute the command:

powercfg -duplicatescheme e9a42b02-d5df-448d-aa00-03f14749eb61

You’ll get a confirmation message “Power Scheme GUID: (Ultimate Performance)“.

Congratulations. The “Ultimate Performance” power plan has been activated and enabled in your Windows 10 device.

3. Now to apply the power plan, you’ll need to open Power Options. You can open Power Options using Win+X menu, using Control Panel or using Cortana search.

Alternatively, you can direct open Power Options using powercfg.cpl command in RUN dialog box or Start Menu search.

4. Once you launch Power Options window, you’ll notice the new “Ultimate Performance” power plan present in the “Additional plans” section.

To apply the “Ultimate Performance” power plan, simply click on it and Windows will immediately apply the new power plan for you.

How to Delete “Ultimate Performance” Power Plan in Windows 10?

In future, if you want to delete this new power plan from your system, you can delete it using following steps:

1. In Power Options window, first apply a different power plan.

2. Now click on “Change plan settings” link given next to “Ultimate Performance” power plan.

3. Click on “Delete this plan” link. Windows will ask for confirmation, click on OK button.

That’s it. It’ll remove the “Ultimate Performance” power plan from your system.

  1. This blue rectangular box is very annoying and so is the sound when it comes on and does not go off .

    The other annoying situation is the Caps lock, does not work properly now.
