[Tip] Enable Hidden Secret Dark Mode in Facebook Messenger

Today we are going to share an interesting tip for Facebook Messenger app users. If you are a Facebook user and you use Facebook Messenger app in your mobile phone, this trick will definitely please you.

Facebook is testing a hidden secret Dark Mode (or Night Mode) feature in Facebook Messenger app. Currently Dark Mode is not activated in Facebook Messenger app and interested users need to follow some steps to reveal the Dark Mode feature. You can consider it as an Easter egg which is hidden by Facebook team at the moment.

If you love dark themes and UIs in software, you’ll love the new Dark Mode UI in Facebook Messenger app.

The method given in this article to activate and enable Dark Mode UI in Facebook Messenger will work in both Google Android and iOS devices such as iPhone.

If you want to apply and enjoy Dark Mode in Facebook Messenger app in your smartphone, following steps will help you:

1. Open Facebook Messenger app in your mobile phone. Make sure you are using the latest version of the app.

You’ll get the default light theme in Messenger app as shown in following image:

2. Now you’ll need to send moon emoji to someone. Tap on the emoticon icon present in the text box and then select “EMOJI” tab. Now scroll down and you’ll see the moon emoji as shown in following screenshot:

Select the emoji and tap on Send button to send it to the selected contact.

As soon as you send the emoji, an animation will appear on your mobile screen showing several moon emojis falling down.

That’s it. You have revealed the hidden secret Dark Mode feature in Facebook Messenger. The app will show a pop-up at the top containing following message:

3. The pop-up will contain a button “Turn On in Settings“. Tap on the button and it’ll open Facebook Messenger Settings page.

4. You’ll notice a new toggle button “Dark Mode” given at the top. Set the toggle to ON or enabled.

That’s it. You are ready to enjoy the new Dark Mode UI in Facebook Messenger app.

PS: In future, if you want to disable or turn off dark mode in Facebook Messenger app, open Settings and set the “Dark Mode” toggle to OFF.
