[Tip] Enable Faster Start Page Feature in Opera Browser

If you are using Opera web browser, you might have noticed that the Start Page takes some time in loading and showing on screen. The Start Page is also known as Speed Dial page,New Tab page and Homepage. It’s shown when you launch Opera browser or open a new tab.

Following screenshot shows the Start Page in Opera browser:

When you create a new tab or launch Opera browser, the Start Page causes some delay due to loading of website shortcuts thumbnails i.e. speed dials. If you create more than one new tabs, Start Page takes time in showing content on screen in all new tabs.

Now the newer versions of Opera browser come with a new feature called “Shared Start Page” which improves loading time of Start Page and makes the Start Page loading instantly on screen.

Now the new Shared Start Page feature is fully functional in newer versions of Opera browser and interested users can activate and enable it using a hidden preference/flag.

If you also want to improve Start Page loading time and want to make Opera’s Start Page super fast, following steps will help you:

1. Launch Opera web browser and type opera://flags in addressbar and press Enter. It’ll open the hidden secret advanced configuration page called “Experiments”.

2. Now click inside “Search flags” text box and type shared. It’ll show following option in the result:

3. By default, this feature is disabled in Opera browser. To manually activate and enable the new feature, select “Enabled” from the drop-down box.
