[Tip] Enable / Disable New Neon Toolbar and Dark Mode in Internet Download Manager

Internet Download Manager (IDM) is one of the most popular file download management software available on Internet. I’m using IDM since many years for downloading content from Internet.

Yesterday, I received a new version available notification from IDM. I checked the notification and I found an interesting feature mentioned in the new version’s changelog:

I immediately installed and upgraded to the new version to check the new Dark Mode feature and new Neon toolbar as I never liked the default toolbar icons in IDM.

The new Dark Mode feature of IDM is based on Windows 10 Dark app mode functionality. If you enable Dark app mode in Windows 10 using Settings app (How-to Guide), IDM automatically activates and enables the new Dark Mode feature.

If you don’t like Dark Mode in IDM and want to disable it but want to keep Windows 10 Dark app mode enabled, you can turn off the forced Dark Mode in IDM by unchecking “View -> Dark Mode support” option using menu bar. IDM will ask to restart the software, after relaunch IDM will disable its Dark Mode feature.

Regarding new Neon toolbar, I observed that the new toolbar is enabled only when using IDM in Dark Mode. In default light mode, the classic toolbar is enabled.

If you want to always use new Neon toolbar irrespective of the Dark mode or light mode or if you want to restore good old classic 3D style toolbar in IDM, following steps will help you. Fortunately, IDM allows users to select desired toolbar icon style. Users can select the new Neon toolbar icons or traditional classic toolbar icons.

1. Open IDM and click on View menu in Menubar.

2. Now go to View -> Toolbar menu and select desired toolbar style.

You’ll find 2 toolbar styles: Neon and 3D Style.

Neon is new modern and minimal toolbar style and 3D Style is classic toolbar style.

Select desired toolbar style and IDM will always show the selected toolbar icons.
