[Tip] Enable and Add “What’s New” and “Tips for Chrome” Pages Options to Chrome Help Menu

In newer versions of Google Chrome web browser, you can enable and add following 2 hidden secret pages to Chrome Help menu:

  • Tips for Chrome
  • What’s New

By default, these pages and their menu options are disabled and don’t appear in Help menu but interested users can manually activate and enable these pages by modifying a hidden preference/flag.

Following screenshot shows both “Tips for Chrome” and “What’s New” options added and available under Chrome Help menu:

When you click on 3-dots Main Menu in Chrome toolbar and navigate to Help menu, you’ll be able to use new “Tips for Chrome” and “What’s New” options.

If you click on “Tips for Chrome” option, it’ll open official Google Chrome website providing tips for Chrome web browser. The webpage URL is google.com/chrome/tips/.

Following screenshot shows “Tips for Chrome” page working in Chrome:

Similarly, if you click on “What’s New” option, it’ll open a new built-in What’s New page in Chrome web browser. The page direct URL is chrome://whats-new/.

PS: The “What’s New” page URL chrome://whats-new/ will only work when you enable the page using steps given below. Without enabling the page, the URL will show “This site can’t be reached. ERR_INVALID_URL” error message.

If you also want to test drive these new hidden secret pages and options in Google Chrome web browser, following steps will help you in enabling these pages:

1. Open Google Chrome web browser and type chrome://flags/ in address bar and press Enter. It’ll open the advanced configuration page.

2. To enable and add “What’s New” page option, type whats-new in the “Search flags” box.

You’ll get following options in search result:

3. To activate and enable “What’s New” page option in Help menu in Chrome, select Enabled from the drop-down box for both above mentioned options.

4. To enable and add “Tips for Chrome” page option, type chrome-tips in the “Search flags” box.

You’ll get following options in search result:

Enables ‘Tips for Chrome’ in main menu; the menu item will take users to an official Google site with information about the latest and most popular Chrome features. – Mac, Windows, Linux, Chrome OS

5. To activate and enable “Tips for Chrome” page option in Help menu in Chrome, select Enabled from the drop-down box for both above mentioned options.

6. Google Chrome will ask you to restart the browser. Click on “Relaunch now” button to restart Google Chrome.

That’s it. You have successfully activated and enabled “What’s New” and “Tips for Chrome” pages and options in Chrome Help menu.

Now go to 3-dots Menu and select Help menu and you’ll get both new options listed under the menu.

PS: In future, if you decide to disable or remove new pages options, select “Default” option from the drop-down box for above mentioned options and restart the browser.
