This article will help you in disabling account related notifications on user profile icon in Windows 11 Start Menu.

In newer versions of Windows 11 operating system, the Start Menu displays notification badges or dots on the User Account icon (also known as user picture or avatar). When the user clicks on the user account icon present at the bottom of the Start Menu, Windows 11 shows suggestions or promotions related to files backup, etc.

Following screenshot shows these new kind of promotions displaying on Start Menu in Windows 11:

The notifications show different messages to different users such as back up you files, protect your memories, Windows can back up your files, etc. The user gets “Start backup” and “Remind me later” buttons to take action on the notification. The notification appears on user account icon in form of a single dot or red colored exclamation mark icon.

This new user profile badging feature was first introduced in Windows 11 Insider Preview build 25227 and received improvements in later builds such as build 25290 and 25309. Now Microsoft has started rolling out the new feature to public via Moment 3 Update or feature drop 3 for Windows 11.

The new notification badge feature has been introduced to notify users about certain actions that are needed to be taken. Basically, the new feature will be used to promote or advertise Microsoft products and offers such as OneDrive cloud backup, subscriptions, etc in form or tips and suggestions appearing on the user account icon in Start Menu.

PS: The badging feature only works when the user is signed in using a Microsoft Account (MSA).

If you don’t want to receive these extra and unnecessary notifications on Start Menu, you can get rid of them using Windows 11 Settings app. Microsoft has provided an option to completely disable and remove Start Menu notifications and suggestions in Windows 11.
