If you are using Windows 11 operating system in your computer and you are regularly installing new updates using Windows Updates, you might have noticed the new Weather widget icon or button added to the extreme left-side on the Taskbar.

Recently released updates added a new Weather widget button to Windows 11 Taskbar. When the device is connected to Internet, this new widget displays live weather forecast information on the bottom-left corner on Taskbar. If there is no Internet connectivity found, Windows 11 displays the default widget icon as shown in following image:

PS: This weather widget is similar to News and Interests feature present in Windows 10.

If you don’t like this new addition of live weather widget button on Windows 11 Taskbar and want to completely disable it, this article will assist you.

In this article, we are going to share a few methods to remove, disable and completely uninstall weather widget feature from Windows 11.

If you also want to disable or remove weather widget from Windows 11 Taskbar, following methods will help you:

Remove Weather Widget Button from Windows 11 Taskbar

If you want to hide or remove the weather widget button from Windows 11 Taskbar, this is the easiest and quickest way.

1. Right-click on the empty area in Taskbar and select “Taskbar Settings” option. It’ll open Taskbar settings page.

Alternatively, you can open the same page using Settings app from Start Menu or by pressing WIN+I keys together and then go to “Personalization -> Taskbar” section.

2. On Taskbar settings page, you’ll see options to show or hide various items on Taskbar.

Look for following toggle option:

3. To remove weather widget button from Windows 11 Taskbar, set the toggle button given next to Widgets to OFF.

It’ll immediately remove the weather widget from Windows 11 Taskbar.

PS: In future, if you decide to restore or re-enable weather widget on Windows 11 Taskbar, set the Widgets toggle button to ON again.

Disable Weather Widget Button on Windows 11 Taskbar

You can also permanently disable weather widget feature in Windows 11 so that no one can add the widget again to Taskbar. Disabling the weather widget will remove it from Windows 11 Taskbar and will also disable above mentioned option in Taskbar settings page so that no one can modify it.

You can disable weather widget feature in Windows 11 using 2 ways:

  • Using Group Policy Editor
  • Using Registry Editor

Let’s discuss both methods in details:

Disable Weather Widget Using Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc)

1. Press WIN+R keys together to launch RUN dialog box. Now type gpedit.msc and press Enter. It’ll open Group Policy Editor.

2. Now go to following key:

Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Widgets

3. In right-side pane, look for following option:

Allow widgets

4. Double-click on the option and select Disabled option.

Click on Apply and OK buttons.

That’s it. It’ll immediately remove the weather widget from Windows 11 Taskbar.

PS: In future, if you decide to restore weather widget feature in Windows 11, set the above mentioned option to Default in Group Policy Editor.

Disable Weather Widget Using Registry Editor (regedit)

If you are using Home edition of Windows 11, you’ll not be able to run gpedit.msc command because this edition doesn’t come with Group Policy Editor.

If you can’t use or don’t want to use Group Policy Editor, you can take help of Registry Editor for the same task. Just follow these simple steps:

1. Press WIN+R keys together to launch RUN dialog box. Now type regedit and press Enter. It’ll open Registry Editor.

2. Now go to following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\

3. Select Microsoft key and right-click on it and select New -> Key option. Set the new key name as Dsh

4. Now select Dsh key and in right-side pane, right-click on empty area and select New -> DWORD (32-bit) Value option.

5. Set the new DWORD name as AllowNewsAndInterests and set its value to 0 to disable weather widget feature.

Close Registry Editor.

You’ll need to restart computer or restart Explorer to apply changes.

After restart, you’ll no longer see weather widget on Taskbar.

PS: In future, if you decide to restore weather widget feature in Windows 11, delete the above mentioned DWORD from Registry Editor.

Completely Uninstall Windows 11 Weather Widget Feature

This method is for advanced users and experts. You can also completely uninstall weather widget functionality in your Windows 11 device which will remove weather widget button from Windows 11 Taskbar along with the widgets option from Taskbar settings page.

1. Right-click on Start button or press WIN+X keys together to launch WIN+X menu. Now select Windows Terminal (Admin) option.

2. Now copy and paste following command in the terminal window:

winget uninstall “windows web experience pack”

Windows 11 might ask you to accept the terms, type Y to agree.

Windows 11 will start uninstalling the Web experience pack from your device which added the widget feature.

It’ll take a few seconds and you’ll get “Successfully uninstalled” message.

Now you’ll not see weather widget button on Taskbar in your Windows 11 device.

PS: In future, if you want to reinstall weather widget feature, you can reinstall the Web experience pack in your Windows 11 device from this official Microsoft page.
