[Tip] Disable New Twitter “Chirp” Font and Restore Old Design UI

If you use Twitter social network to connect with your friends, relatives, etc, you might have noticed that Twitter has changed the default font used by its website.

The new font is called “Chirp” which looks very sharp and might not please everyone. Many Twitter users are complaining about the new font and UI change.

There are many people who want to restore old font and user interface in their Twitter account but Twitter has not provided any way or option to change the font style. You can only increase or decrease the font size using “More -> Display” option but you can’t revert back to the old font.

Fortunately, there is a workaround to get rid of the new font and bring back old font and UI in Twitter website.

A Twitter user “Twilight Sparkle” shared an easy workaround to restore old classic font and disable new visual refresh in Twitter website.

Following screenshot shows old font and UI restored in Twitter:

If you also want to disable new Chirp font and restore classic look-n-feel in Twitter website, following steps will help you:

STEP 1:

Open Twitter in your web browser such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Opera or Internet Explorer.

Now we’ll need to open Developer Tools in the web browser. You can press any of following mentioned keyboard shortcuts/hotkeys to launch Developer Tools window:

  • F12
  • Ctrl+Shift+I
  • Ctrl+Shift+J
  • Ctrl+Shift+K
  • Cmd+Option+I (on Mac)
  • Cmd+Option+J (on Mac)

Alternatively, you can also open Developer Tools window using menubar or context menu (right-click menu). In some web browsers, it’s listed as “Inspect” option.

Now go to “Console” tab or section in Developer Tools window.

STEP 2:

Paste following code in Console window command line near the typing cursor:

document.cookie="ab_decider=responsive_web_chirp_font_enabled=false&responsive_web_nav_visual_refresh_enabled=false"

PS: In Firefox, you might see a warning message about pasting the code. Type allow pasting and Firefox will allow you to paste the code.

After pasting the code, press Enter key.

STEP3:

Now you’ll need to hard refresh the Twitter website page to apply changes. Press Ctrl+F5 keys together to hard refresh Twitter website. It’ll force your web browser to clear the website from local cache and reload the fresh web page from scratch.

That’s it. Now you’ll see old font restored everywhere in Twitter website.

UNINSTALL METHOD:

In future, if you decide to restore new Chirp font in Twitter website, either run following code in Developer Tools -> Console window:

document.cookie="ab_decider=responsive_web_chirp_font_enabled=true&responsive_web_nav_visual_refresh_enabled=true"

OR

Clear cache of Twitter website as mentioned in following tutorial:
