[Tip] Disable Hotkey to Toggle Color Filters On or Off in Windows 10

Windows 10 newer versions come with a new feature called “Color Filter” (also known as Colorblind mode). This new feature has been introduced for users who have some vision problems or color blindness (color vision deficiency). Color Filter feature helps users seeing things on their computer screen more clearly. It has been designed to help color blind people and those who have eyes sensitive to lights.

Color filters can be enabled or disabled using “Settings -> Ease of Access -> Color Filters” page. There are many types of color filters given to choose such as Inverted, Grayscale, Grayscale Inverted, Red-Green, Blue-Yellow, etc.

Windows 10 also allows users to quickly toggle color filters on or off using a built-in hotkey. Users can press WIN+Ctrl+C keys together to turn on/off color filters quickly and easily.

Using WIN+Ctrl+C shortcut key, users can immediately apply color filters without going through Settings app pages. It can help users who want to regularly enable/disable color filters.

But sometimes this built-in keyboard shortcut might create problems to some users. Many users don’t know about color filters and they accidentally press the key combination and the screen colors change. The users have no idea why did it happen and how to revert screen colors back to normal?

Sometimes a 3rd party application might also contain same keyboard shortcut and whenever the user presses these keys together, the color filters get activated. It might become very annoying to some users.

That’s why Microsoft has provided an option to disable this built-in keyboard shortcut to turn on/off the color filters.

If you are also frustrated by this hotkey and want to deactivate it, following steps will help you:

1. Open Start Menu and click on Settings option. It’ll open Settings app. Alternatively, you can direct open Settings app using WIN+I hotkey.

2. Now click on “Ease of Access” icon and in left-side pane, click on “Color filters” section.

PS: Alternatively, You can directly launch this page using “ms-settings:easeofaccess-colorfilter” command in RUN dialog box as mentioned here.

3. Now you’ll see “Use color filters” section. Under “Turn on color filters” option, you’ll see “Allow the shortcut key to toggle filter on or off” checkbox.

The checkbox is enabled by default. Uncheck the checkbox i.e. disable the option and it’ll immediately disable the WIN+Ctrl+C hotkey to turn on/off color filters.

Now you’ll no longer accidentally toggle the color filters in Windows 10.
