[Tip] Disable “Customer Experience Improvement Program” (Telemetry) in ESET NOD32 and Security Suites

If you use any ESET product such as ESET Smart Security, ESET Internet Security or ESET NOD32 Antivirus, you must read this article. ESET is a well known brand which provides antivirus and security suite software programs. Lots of people use their antivirus and Internet security suite in their computers.

The latest versions of ESET products come with a new component called “Customer Experience Improvement Program” or CEIP. It’s another name for the infamous telemetry and data collection functionality.

According to the official description provided by ESET, the “Customer Experience Improvement Program” collects anonymous information about how the product is used. The collected data helps ESET improve the experience for its users and will never be shared with third parties.

When you install or upgrade to the latest version of ESET NOD32 or ESET Security suites, the program window shows a notification to participate in Customer Experience Improvement Program as shown in following screenshot:

To accept the invitation, you can click on “Yes, I want to participate in the program (recommended)” option. To deny the request, you can click on “No, I don’t want to participate in the program” option.

ESET recommends to click on Yes option and many people might click on the Yes option in hurry as it shows “Recommended” text.

If you don’t want to join the Customer Experience Improvement Program, you can click on No option and ESET will not collect data. It’ll disable the telemetry and data collection feature introduced in ESET products.

But if you clicked on Yes option and now you are worried about the data collection, you can still disable the Customer Experience Improvement Program feature with the help of this tutorial.

ESET allows users to opt-out i.e. disable Customer Experience Improvement Program using its product’s settings. If you want to disable Customer Experience Improvement Program i.e. telemetry and data collection in ESET NOD32 and ESET Security suites, following steps will help you:

1. Open installed ESET product such as NOD32 or Security suite program and click on “Setup” tab.

2. Now click on “Advanced setup” option given at the bottom of the window.

3. It’ll open advanced setup settings window. Click on “User Interface” tab.

4. Now in right-side pane, click on “Customer Experience Improvement Program” option.

5. To disable or turn off the telemetry and data collection, set the toggle button given next to “Participate in Customer Experience Improvement Program” option to OFF. As soon as you disable the toggle button, it’ll change to a ‘x‘ mark.

6. Click on OK button and the installed ESET product in your computer will stop collecting and sending data to its servers.
