Customizing date and time in Windows 11 Taskbar clock is super easy and simple. Windows 11 allows users to change and modify the date and time format and if you know how to do it, it’s a piece of cake.

If you also want to customize date and time displaying in Windows 11 Taskbar clock, following steps will help you:

STEP 2: Open Date and Time Format Customization Window

Now click on Additional Settings button in Region window. It’ll open Customize Format window where you can modify number, currency, date and time formats.

Since we want to customize date and time format, we’ll use Time and Date tabs.

STEP 3: Customize Time Format in Windows 11 Taskbar Clock

Go to Time tab and you’ll see 4 settings to customize:

  • Short time
  • Long time
  • AM symbol
  • PM symbol

To change Taskbar clock time appearance, we’ll need to modify Short Time format. By default it’s set to h:mm tt which means the time is shown in 12-hour format with AM/PM symbol.

h represents 12-hour time. If you want to show time in 24-hour format, change h to HH.

tt represents AM/PM symbols, if you want to show AM/PM symbols, keep tt. If you want to remove AM/PM symbols, delete tt from the format text box.

PS: You can quickly select available time formats using the drop-down list. Click on the down arrow showing at the end of the time format text box and you’ll get a list of predefined time formats.

Now the interesting part comes!

You can modify AM/PM symbols text to show any desired text string or name in Taskbar clock.

Just type your name or desired string in AM Symbol and PM Symbol text box and apply changes and it’ll immediately add the text string to Windows 11 Taskbar clock.

You can type any text string up to 12 characters long in the text box.

STEP 4: Customize Date Format in Windows 11 Taskbar Clock

To customize date format, go to Date tab and you’ll see 2 settings to customize:

  • Short date
  • Long date

To change Taskbar clock date appearance, we’ll need to modify Short date format. By default it’s set to M/d/yyyy which means the date is shown in numbers only.

M represents month number, d represents day number and yyyy represents year.

You can do as following:

If you want to show full month name in Windows 11 Taskbar clock (such as April), replace M with MMMM e.g. MMMM dd, yyyy.

If you want to show partial month name in Windows 11 Taskbar clock (such as Apr), replace M with MMM e.g. MMM dd, yyyy.

If you want to add full day name in Windows 11 Taskbar clock (such as Monday), add dddd in the beginning of the format string e.g. dddd, MMMM dd, yyyy.

If you want to add partial day name in Windows 11 Taskbar clock (such as Mon), add ddd in the beginning of the format string e.g. ddd, MMM dd, yyyy.

You can also show partial year number by replacing yyyy with yy only.

TIP: You can copy the format string from Long Date text box and paste it in the Short Date text box. Apply changes and it’ll display full date in Windows 11 Taskbar clock.

PS: You can quickly select available date formats using the drop-down list. Click on the down arrow showing at the end of the date format text box and you’ll get a list of predefined date formats.

So you see, customizing date and time format is Windows 11 is very easy and you can modify date/time format according to your requirements.

Reset Date and Time Format to Default Settings

There is a “Reset” button given on both Date and Time tabs which can be used to restore date/time format to default settings.

When you customize date/time format in Windows 11, it stores the information in following key in Registry:

In right-side pane, look for following String values:

  • s2359
  • sShortDate
  • sShortTime

These strings contain the format strings which you changed using Region window.

You can directly modify the strings using registry Editor (regedit). To take effects, you’ll need to restart Explorer or your computer.

  1. I’m guessing putting your name in place of the AM/PM symbols means you cannot use 24hr format and achieve the same result?

  2. Is there any way to show the date in the taskbar clock when the taskbar size is set to ‘small’?

    That is, the registry value

    Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\TaskbarSi

    is set to 0.

With the taskbar size set to ‘small,’ it only shows the time.

    Thanks!
