[Tip] Create Shortcut to Any Settings or Options on Home Screen in Android Mobile Phones

In our mobile phones, we regularly need to use certain options in Settings page to turn on/off certain features or change functionality. For example, I regularly use USB Tethering option, screen timeout and Mobile Networks Mode option (check here why?) in Settings in my Android mobile phone.

To use these options, we need to first launch Settings and then navigate to lots of pages to find desired option. Wouldn’t it be great if we could create a direct shortcut to those settings options on our mobile phone Home Screen for quick and easy access?

Many Android smartphones come with a Setting widget built-in which can be used to add direct shortcut to desired settings on Home Screen but many mobile phone manufacturers such as Samsung remove the preinstalled Setting widget from their mobile phone firmware. I have checked many Samsung smartphones and I was unable to find the bundled Settings widget.

In this article, I’ll tell you how to add any desired Settings page shortcut on Home Screen in your Android smartphone so that you can direct access any particular setting or option right from the Home Screen without opening Settings app.

Following screenshot shows a direct shortcut to USB Tethering option on Home Screen in Samsung Galaxy smartphone:

We’ll use a free app called “Quick Shortcut Maker” which allows to add applications shortcuts as well as Settings shortcuts on Home Screen in Android mobile phones.

The beauty of this app is that even if you uninstall the app, the shortcuts will remain on Home Screen. So you can add your desired shortcuts and then remove the app if you don’t want to keep extra apps in your mobile phone.

If you also want to add direct shortcuts to Settings and options on your mobile phone Home Screen, following steps will help you:

1. First of all download and install the app from Google Play Store. For your convenience, we are providing direct link to the app’s download page:

2. After installing the app, you don’t need to launch the app. Go to Home Screen, long press on Home Screen and select Widgets option.

3. Now select QuickShortcutMaker widget and drag-n-drop the widget on Home Screen.

4. It’ll launch QuickShortcutMaker app to select desired shortcut as target.

PS: The app may show a warning message that it was built for an older version of Android and may not work properly. Ignore the message and tap on OK button.

Now type desired setting or option name in Search box. For example, to add hotspot or tethering page shortcut, type hotspot or tethering text in Search box.

Select the correct Setting or Option present in the result list.

Now the app will ask to set desired name and icon for the shortcut. You can set any name and image for the shortcut.

You can tap on “Try” option to check in advance whether the shortcut is launching your desired Setting page.

5. After setting name and icon for the shortcut, tap on Create button.

PS: I found a small bug in the app. If we don’t select the icon and tap on “Create” button, nothing happens. So it’s important to select an image as shortcut icon to be able to create the shortcut.

That’s it. You are ready to enjoy direct shortcut to any setting or option on Home Screen.

You can create multiple shortcuts on Home Screen using the same method.

  2. It looks great, but when I tried to install it (Samsung A107M, Android v10, sec. patch level April 1, 2021), it just doesn’t. The shortcut is not created. Maybe it is a little outdated.

  3. I would like to ask if there was a possible display settings/screen res shortcut that could be made. Frequently switching between 720p to 1440p for 12hr shifts vs. entertainment, respectively.
