[Tip] Block or Disable Annoying Flash Messages Pop-ups from Idea Power in Your Mobile Phone

UPDATE: The method given in this tutorial should work in disabling flash messages popups and “Class 0 Messages” shown by almost all SIMs (prepaid/postpaid) which are provided by different Indian telecom service providers or network operators such as Airtel, Idea, Vodafone, BSNL and Jio.

If you are living in India and using Idea prepaid or postpaid SIM in your mobile phone and you are regularly receiving flash messages popups from Idea Power on your mobile phone screen, this tutorial will help you in disabling and blocking these annoying popup messages forever.

Yesterday I purchased a new prepaid SIM of Idea for my Android smartphone. The mobile phone was Samsung Galaxy S9. When I inserted the SIM in my mobile phone and started using it, my mobile phone started showing annoying flash messages pop-ups.

The popup messages were showing frequently after every 2-3 hours and were showing promotional offers for my Idea prepaid connection.

Following screenshot shows one of those promotional messages or sponsored advertisements displaying on mobile screen:

The title of all popup messages was “Idea Power“. When we insert an Idea SIM in any mobile phone, it automatically installs or adds “Idea Power” app to mobile phone. So I immediately understood that these irritating messages were coming from the Idea Power app.

These popup messages are called CBC flash messages or notifications. The messages were first showing a large Speaker or volume icon in the middle of the screen with a Beep sound and then the actual flash popup message was displayed on screen.

When these flash popup messages didn’t stop showing in my mobile phone, I checked Idea Power app notification settings using “Settings -> Apps” page. Surprisingly I was unable to turn off its notifications. The toggle button to disable notifications was grayed out i.e. disabled.

Finally I launched Idea Power app to find out some options to deactivate or disable these annoying flash messages. Fortunately, Idea Power app provides an option to deactivate or block these flash messages alerts and I was successful in getting rid of these annoying flash messages popups.

If you are also using Idea mobile network SIM in your cell phone and you are also annoyed by these frequent flash messages popups, following steps will help you in deactivating and disabling these flash messages completely and permanently:

1. Open App drawer in your mobile phone and tap on Idea Power app icon.

PS: Different telecom service providers or network operators install these kind of apps with different names such as Airtel Services, SIM Toolkit, etc. But the app icon will always be the same containing a SIM logo with a cog wheel icon over it. So look for such kind of app if you are using a different network operator’s SIM.

2. It’ll launch Idea Power app. Tap on Idea Flash option given at the bottom of the list.

3. It’ll show a few options such as Activation, Service Info, My Topics and Audio Alerts. Tap on Activation option.

4. Now you’ll see 3 options: Activate, Deactivate and Show Messages. Tap on Deactivate option.

That’s it. Within a few minutes, you’ll receive an SMS from 5933503 number which is Idea VAS (Value Added Services) number. The message will show that your request for deactivation of CBC Flash Messaging services has been received and will be processed in 2 hours.

Congratulations. It’ll permanently block and disable those flash messages popups and you’ll no longer see them in your mobile phone. I didn’t receive any flash message popup after following above mentioned steps.

BONUS TIP: Disable or Block Class 0 Messages:

Many times you may receive similar flash messages popups containing “Class 0 Message” in title as shown in following image:

Most of the times these messages are shown after an outgoing call ends to display your prepaid balance details such as voice call seconds used and remaining, your current pack name, call duration, balance left, etc. These messages contain 2 buttons: Cancel and Save. If you tap on Cancel button, it removes the message from your mobile screen. If you tap on Save button, it saves the message in your default Messaging app. Above mentioned method should also help you in disabling and deactivating these Class 0 Messages.

  1. Dear Vishal Gupta,
I was under the impression that Idea/Vodaphone had merged.
I am getting from Vodaphone non-stop upgrade offers three to four times
daily . These come with starting letter V (like VT VS VM etc.). In addition some other offers mostly business related from jewellers, real estate agents, etc. come with various first letter like Q etc.
I have tried barring these numbers. Now Vodaphone says that call bar
list is full and no more can be added. These messages keep coming.
Anyway to get rid of these ?
Thank you for information like above. Have been your subscriber for
years and glad of it too.

  3. Send sms
    STOP
    to
    5933500

Send “STOP” to 5933500 from your IDEA mobile number.
