[Tip] Allow iPhone to Ring in Silent or Do Not Disturb Mode for Selected Contacts

If you want to allow one or more contacts in your iPhone to ring your phone even if you have turned on Silent or Do Not Disturb (DND) mode, this article will help you.

Many times we put our mobile phone on silent or do not disturb mode to prevent the phone from ringing by unwanted calls. For example, when we are attending an important meeting or we are visiting someone inside a hospital or we are going to sleep, we enable the silent or DND mode to avoid calls. iPhone users frequently use the ring/silent hardware switch button (slider) present at the left side of the iPhone to quickly put the phone on silent mode.

But sometimes we don’t want to miss important calls from a few contacts when we have enabled silent or do not disturb mode such as family members, boss, etc. We want our smartphone to ring whenever it receives calls from those important contacts.

Although Do Not Disturb mode allows selecting contacts to add them to exceptions list and our phone will ring for those contacts but there is no way to do the same thing in silent mode.

But if you are using Apple iPhone, you can allow one or more contacts to bypass the silent or do not disturb mode and make your iPhone ring. With the help of this trick, you’ll never miss any important call from desired contacts and can safely put your iPhone on silent or DND mode.

If you also want to set some contacts to immediately ring your iPhone in silent and do not disturb mode, following steps will help you:

STEP 1: Open Contacts app in your iPhone and tap on the contact which you want to select to bypass silent and do not disturb mode.

STEP 2: Tap on Edit option present at the top-right corner on contact’s information screen.

STEP 3: Scroll down a little and tap on Ringtone (Default) option.

STEP 4: Enable or turn on “Emergency Bypass” toggle option.

STEP 5: Tap on Done and that’s it.

Now whenever you put your iPhone on silent or do not disturb mode and you receive a call or message from the selected contact, your iPhone will ring and vibrate just like normal mode.

You can follow the same steps for other desired contacts. Using this method, you can allow any contact to bypass the silent and DND modes and make your iPhone ring.

PS: I’m using this workaround to fix the automatic call rejection and busy tone issue in iPhone during do not disturb mode. Now I have enabled emergency bypass for desired contacts and I’m using silent mode instead of do not disturb mode.
