Take a Tour of Windows 95 on Your Computer

If we ask our kids about MS DOS, Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98/Me, they’ll be clueless. They only know about Windows 10 and Windows 8/8.1 as they got them preinstalled in their computers. Some kids also know about Windows 7 and lucky teenagers had a chance to use Windows XP on their computers.

Ah those good ol’ days when we used to use Windows NT and Windows 95 on our school and home computers. So fast startup and shutdown. Everything was so quick. No animations and not eye candy effects. Just functionality and performance. Nothing else.

We used to play pranks with friends and teachers by taking a screenshot of full Desktop and set it as wallpaper and hiding Taskbar. They used to think that the computer hanged and they always restarted it. Ah, that nostalgic feeling.

If you have used Windows 95 in past or if you want to try it now in your modern computers, here is a good news for you. “Felixrieseberg” at github has created an electron app to run Windows 95 on any computer.

You can now run and use Windows 95 in any other Windows version such as Windows 10, 8, Windows 7 or Windows XP. It can also be run on MacOS and Linux distro.

You just need to download its EXE file which is about 120MB in size. Launch the EXE file and you are ready to test drive Windows 95 in your computer.

It creates a shortcut icon on Desktop. Double-click on the icon and you’ll be presented with an app screen. Click on the big “Start Windows 95” button present in the center and enjoy Windows 95 running in your computer.

You can open My Computer, Internet Explorer, Desktop Properties, Taskbar Settings, games and much more. You can even change wallpaper, screensaver, can play Solitaire game, etc.
