Hey Microsoft! Please Allow Users to Select and Remove Multiple Tiles at Once in Windows 10 Start Menu

That’s the most irritating, most annoying, most frustrating issue in Windows 10. We can’t select multiple tiles in Windows 10 Start Menu. If we need to remove more than one tile, we have to right-click on every tile one by one and select “Unpin from Start” option. If we need to resize multiple tiles, we need to right-click on each tile one by one and select resize option and so on.

I personally don’t use app tiles which by default come pinned on right-side pane of Start Menu. So I always prefer to remove all tiles from Start Menu to make the Start Menu compact and clean. But to remove all tiles, I have to remove them one by one which takes lots of time. We can’t remove all tiles at once in Windows 10 Start Menu.

Yeah. There are some Powershell commands to remove tiles in bulk from Start Menu but no command is perfect. They all have side effects and can’t remove all tiles from Start Menu. Sometimes they also remove installed program shortcuts from Start Menu. So it’s advised to not use those commands. Also executing Powershell commands is considered an advanced method and should be used only by experts. Why should a normal user depend upon running commands to remove multiple tiles from Start Menu?

I wonder why Microsoft didn’t implement such a basic and essential feature in Start Menu?

If you remember, the good ol’ Start Screen present in Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 provided this functionality. If we needed to remove or modify multiple tiles on Start Screen, we just had to press and hold CTRL key on keyboard and then we could click on multiple tiles to select them. We could also press Space Bar on the keyboard to show App bar on bottom and then we just needed to click on desired tiles to select them.

Pressing CTRL key and clicking on multiple items is a very old method to select multiple items. It works in Windows Explorer too.

Microsoft should implement similar functionality in Windows 10 Start Menu as well. Press and hold CTRL key and click on multiple tiles to select them in bulk and then we can remove (unpin) them, resize them or modify other things.

At least users should be able to remove a tiles group and if we remove a group, all tiles present in the group should be removed. It’ll also help in removing tiles in bulk. We can create a group of all tiles and then we just need to remove that group to remove all tiles at once.

It’ll really make Windows 10 users life easier and will improve Start Menu experience a lot.

So please Microsoft! Allow Windows 10 users to select multiple tiles on Start Menu in future Windows 10 builds.

Thank you.

  1. ^^ We are talking about the tiles pinned at right-side pane of Start Menu. Only apps shortcuts listed under All Apps list (left-side pane) can be removed by deleting their shortcuts from Start Menu folder.

  2. I know the feel, I too dislike many tiles in start menu and it took couple of minutes to remove them one by one. Totally agreed, there should be a way to select multiple titles and do action.

  3. I sent a feedback about selecting multiple tiles on the Start Menu to Microsoft by using Feedback Hub on Windows 10. Hopefully, it SHOULD be added to the next version of Windows 10.
