Remove Monitor, Relay and VPN Options from Firefox Account Menu

If you want to delete or remove the new extra options (Monitor, Relay and VPN) from Firefox Account drop-down menu or panel, this article will help you.

Starting with Mozilla Firefox 128.0 version, the Firefox Account button on the toolbar now shows 3 extra options in its drop-down menu:

When a Firefox user clicks on the Firefox Account toolbar icon to access sync options, the above mentioned options are displayed under the drop-down menu along with other sync options such as manage account, sync settings, etc.

Following screenshot shows the newly added options available on Firefox Account menu:

These new options have been added to promote the associated Mozilla services and tools. But many Firefox users may not like these new options and might find them unnecessary and annoying.

Fortunately, there is a secret trick to get rid of these unwanted options from Firefox Account menu. We can modify a hidden secret preference/flag to remove these extra options and make the Firefox Account drop-down menu clean again.

Following screenshot shows all extra options removed successfully from Firefox Account menu:

If you also want to disable or remove Monitor, Relay and Mozilla VPN options from Firefox Account menu in your web browser, following steps will help you:

STEP 1: Open Mozilla Firefox and type about:config in the address bar and press Enter. It’ll show you a warning message, click on “Accept the Risk and Continue” button. It’ll open Firefox’s hidden secret advanced configuration page i.e. about:config page.

STEP 2: Now type pxi in Search filter box and look for following preferences in the window:

identity.fxaccounts.toolbar.pxiToolbarEnabled

identity.fxaccounts.toolbar.pxiToolbarEnabled.monitorEnabled

identity.fxaccounts.toolbar.pxiToolbarEnabled.relayEnabled

identity.fxaccounts.toolbar.pxiToolbarEnabled.vpnEnabled

STEP 3: To completely deactivate and remove all promotional options from Firefox Account drop-down menu, set the above mentioned preferences to False.

The identity.fxaccounts.toolbar.pxiToolbarEnabled preference removes all extra options from Account menu. Other preferences can be used if you want to removeĀ  any particular option but want to keep other options in Account menu.

To change the preference value, double-click on the preference and it’ll toggle the preference value.

STEP 4: You will need to restart Firefox to apply the changes. If you have opened multiple tabs and you don’t want to lose them, you can restart Firefox without losing tabs using methods given in following tutorial:

After restarting Firefox, the extra options will no longer appear under Firefox Account menu in your web browser.

PS: In future, if you want to restore the removed options, set the above mentioned preferences/flags to true again.
