[Opera Tip] Enable or Disable Bigger Tiles on Speed Dial Page

Speed Dial page (also known as Start Page, New Tab Page and Homepage) is the built-in and default page in Opera web browser which opens when you launch the web browser or open a new tab. It shows tiles or thumbnail shortcuts of some preinstalled web pages. You can delete the existing tiles and add your desired website tiles on the page.

Recently a new feature was added to Opera web browser which is called “Bigger or Larger Tiles“. Opera automatically adjusts and changes the size of tiles shown on Speed Dial page according to the display size. If you are using a small display, Opera shows default smaller tiles on Speed Dial page but if you are using a large HD display, Opera increases the tiles size and shows bigger tiles on Speed Dial page.

You can notice in the above screenshots that bigger tiles take lot of screen space and if we resize window, very few tiles are shown on screen compared to smaller tiles.

There might be many Opera users who don’t like the new bigger tiles on Speed Dial page and they want to restore small sized tiles. On the other hand, there might be some people who like the new larger tiles and want to have them on their Speed Dial page.

Fortunately Opera provides options to change tiles size on Speed Dial page. You can select whether you want to show bigger tiles or smaller tiles on Speed Dial page.

If you also want to enable or disable bigger/larger tiles on Speed Dial page in Opera web browser, following methods will help you:

METHOD 1: Using Opera Easy Setup Panel

1. Open Opera web browser and look at the top-right corner of the toolbar. You’ll find a toolbar icon to customize Opera basic settings. This icon is called “Easy setup“.

2. Once you click on “Easy setup” icon, look under “Appearance” section.

3. You’ll find an option “Use bigger tiles“.

If you want to show bigger tiles on Speed Dial page, set the toggle button given next to the option to ON.

If you want to show smaller tiles on Speed Dial page, set the toggle button given next to the option to OFF.

It’ll immediately change the tiles size on Speed Dial page.

METHOD 2: Using Opera Settings

1. Launch Opera web browser, click on Opera Menu button and then click on Settings option. Alternatively you can directly launch Settings page by pressing Alt+P keys together.

2. Now scroll down to bottom on settings page and click on “Advanced” link. It’ll show advanced settings options.

3. Again scroll down and navigate to “Start Page” section. You’ll find an option “Use bigger tiles“.

If you want to show bigger tiles on Speed Dial page, set the toggle button given next to the option to ON.

If you want to show smaller tiles on Speed Dial page, set the toggle button given next to the option to OFF.

It’ll immediately change the tiles size on Speed Dial page.
