[Opera Tip] Enable / Disable Enhanced Address Bar or Quick Access Pane

New versions of Opera web browser come with a brand new feature called “Enhanced Address bar” which is also known as “Quick Access Panel” or “Better Address Bar“. This new feature shows a new dropdown box when you click inside the address bar.

Following screenshot shows Enhanced Address Bar dropdown menu in action:

This new enhanced drop-down menu in combined address bar and search bar shows speed dials and other page functionalities such as copy, paste, save web page as PDF, take screenshots using Snapshot, add to speed dial, etc along with Google search box.

To open the enhanced address bar drop-down menu, you just need to click or double-click on the combined address bar and search bar.

In stable version of Opera web browser, this new enhanced address bar feature is disabled by default but in Beta and Developer versions of Opera, this new feature is enabled by default.

If you don’t have this feature enabled but you want to activate and enable this feature or if you already have this feature enabled but want to disable it, this tutorial will help you.

So let’s start the tutorial:

Enable or Disable Enhanced Address Bar or Quick Access Pane in Opera

1. First of all open Opera web browser, click on Opera button present at the top-left corner of Opera window and then click on Settings. You can also directly open Opera Settings page by pressing ALT+P keys together.

2. Now scroll down a little and you’ll notice a new section “Quick Access“. Click on “Manage Quick Access” option and it’ll open a new screen to turn on/off Quick Access Pane feature.

To enable Enhanced Address Bar (Quick Access Pane) feature, set the toggle button given next to “Enable Quick Access Pane” option to ON.

To disable Enhanced Address Bar (Quick Access Pane) feature, set the toggle button given next to “Enable Quick Access Pane” option to OFF.

It’ll immediately enable or disable Enhanced Address Bar feature in Opera.

Manage Items in Enhanced Address Bar or Quick Access Pane in Opera

On “Manage Quick Access” page, if “Enable Quick Access Pane” option is ON, you’ll be able to customize various options such as show/hide Copy, Paste and Go, Save as PDF, Snapshot and Add to speed dial links.

To add or remove an element, simply check or uncheck the checkbox given for that element.

You can also show or hide Google search box by enabling or disabling “Enable Quick Access Search Box” toggle option.

Permanently Turn On/Off Enhanced Address Bar or Quick Access Pane Feature in Opera

If you want to completely turn on or off Enhanced Address Bar (Quick Access Pane) functionality in Opera, you can do it using Opera’s advanced configuration page.

1. Launch Opera web browser and type opera://flags in addressbar and press Enter. It’ll open the hidden secret advanced configuration page called “Experiments”.

2. Now click inside “Search flags” text box and type enhanced. It’ll show following option in the result:

3. If you want to permanently enable the new Enhanced Address Bar in your browser, select “Enabled” from the drop-down box.

If you want to permanently disable Enhanced Address Bar feature so that no one can turn on/off it using Opera Settings, select “Disabled” from the drop-down box.

4. Opera will ask you to restart the browser. Click on “Relaunch now” button to restart Opera.

  1. Hi VG
    I can’t get power user settings (konami code) in the latest version of Opera. Is it disabled by Opera ? Any solutions ?

  2. No, it is not working in Opera Version:57.0.3098.106 (64bit)
    What I want to know is that setting disabled for all or is it my problem?
