[Opera Tip] Disable News Articles Display on Speed Dial (New Tab) Page

Just like Mozilla Firefox shows highlights and snippets on New Tab page, Opera web browser has also started showing latest news articles on its New Tab page which is called Speed Dial page or Start page.

The newer versions of Opera web browser come with news on Speed Dial page feature which displays latest headlines from countries and language of your choice on Speed Dial page. Speed Dial page is shown whenever you start Opera web browser or open a new tab, so it works like a New Tab page, homepage or start page.

This new feature shows 50 news articles below your regular Speed Dial folders. You can click on any article to open it in a new tab. You can select desired language and country by clicking on the cog wheel (settings) icon given next to the news category toolbar. You can choose your own country and language or any other locale. You are allowed to select multiple languages and countries. Currently more than 40 countries and languages are available to choose.

Although it’s a nice little addition to the Speed Dial page but some users may not like it. Some people may find it annoying and consider it as an advertisement. It’ll also consume your Internet connection bandwidth in downloading and updating the news articles regularly.

Fortunately, Opera has provided an option to disable news article display on Speed Dial page. If you also want to remove the sponsored news articles from Speed Dial page, following steps will help you:

1. Open Opera web browser and look at the top-right corner of the Speed Dial page. You’ll find a small icon to customize Opera basic settings. This icon is called “Easy setup“.

2. Once you click on “Easy setup” icon, look under “Appearance” section.

3. You’ll find an option “Show News“. It’s enabled by default. Click on the toggle button given next to the option to set it to OFF.

  1. Vg, on my PC on bios installed oem key, but i don’t know which edition key is it. Can i see somewhere this key’s edition? I think it’s single language, or pro. Right now, i have installed home edition, but it’s activated with legal key and the key of oem bios isn’t right edition.
