If you live in India and own a vehicle, you must install mParivahan app in your mobile phone to check whether your vehicle has any challan. All of it will be covered in this article.

If you live in India, you might be very well aware of the new Motor Vehicle (MV) act. Now there are huge fines and penalties for violating traffic rules. There are many things which vehicle owners must keep in mind. You should wear helmet or seatbelt while driving your vehicle. You should keep all documents such as Registration Certificate (RC), Driving License (DL), vehicle insurance papers and Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate. Also no speeding, racing, drunken driving.

Many people are getting huge challans in India as they are not following new Motor Vehicle act rules properly. You might be feeling happy that no traffic police stopped you and you didn’t receive any challan. Right?

You might be wrong, my friend. You might have broken some traffic rules unknowingly and you might have received an e-challan and you are still not aware of it.

Actually many people are violating traffic rules by not wearing helmets and seat belts, by speed racing, etc and traffic police just takes a photograph of their vehicle number and sends an e-challan without their knowledge.

The sad thing is that the vehicle owner doesn’t receive any email, SMS or notification letter about the e-challan.

I have many friends and relatives who got these e-challans and they had no idea about it.

So how did I know it? With the help of mParivahan app!

How to Know Whether Your Vehicle has any Challan?

To help people, Indian government has released an app “mParivahan” for smartphones which can be used to check whether your vehicle received any challan or not. Apart from checking challan status, you can check registration details, owner name and many other things about a vehicle.

This is a very useful app and in current scenario, every Indian who drives a vehicle, must install this app so that you can regularly check challan status of your vehicle as well as others such as your family members, friends, relatives, colleagues, etc.

Vehicle age and Registration date are very important things to know. If you are buying a second hand vehicle, you can check its information using mParivahan app and can know how much old the vehicle is and who is the registered owner of the vehicle. Is the vehicle stolen? Is it registered properly or not?

To check Challan status, tap on “View Challan” button and the app will immediately show any challan available for the vehicle.

BONUS TIP:

One more benefit of the app is that you can add your vehicle RC and your driving license virtually in this app and then you’ll not need to carry them physically with you. If a traffic police asks for these papers, you can show him the RC and DL in this app.

I checked RC of many friends and relatives and I was surprised that many of them were having challans and they were not aware of them.

How to Check Challan Status, Date/Time and Reason Without Mobile App?

Now there might be some people who don’t want to install app in their smartphone. In such case, you can check challan status using official website in your smartphone or computer:

Check Challan Details at Official Parivahan Website

You can enter Vehicle number, enter correct Captcha and it’ll show challan details.

How to Pay Your Vehicle Challan Online?

Now the next point is how to pay the challan? You can pay them online if you want.

Open the above mentioned official website, enter vehicle number or challan number and once it shows challan details, tap or click on “Pay Now” button.

Now you can pay the challan online.

Apps such as PayTM can also be used to pay challan.

  1. Thanks a lot for sharing this app. I have 3 vehicles in my house: my bike, my father’s scooter and a car. I found that there was a 500 rs challan pending on my bike. Now i’m going to pay it.
