Mozilla Fixes Connection Problems with Microsoft.com Domains in Firefox Browser

A few days back on December 13, I encountered a strange bug or issue in Firefox 95.0 version while trying to open a few Microsoft websites. Whenever I tried to visit those Microsoft websites, Firefox failed to connect to Microsoft.com and displayed following error message:

Secure Connection Failed

An error occurred during a connection to docs.microsoft.com. The OCSP response does not include a status for the certificate being verified.

Error code: MOZILLA_PKIX_ERROR_OCSP_RESPONSE_FOR_CERT_MISSING

  • The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
  • Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem.

I immediately shared about this issue on AskVG in following exclusive article with a working solution or workaround to temporarily fix the issue:

“MOZILLA PKIX ERROR OCSP RESPONSE FOR CERT MISSING” Error Code on Microsoft Websites in Firefox

Following screenshot shows the error message live in action on developer.microsoft.com website in Firefox:

I encountered the connection problem on following domains at Microsoft.com website:

  • docs.microsoft.com
  • developer.microsoft.com
  • visualstudio.microsoft.com
  • channel9.msdn.com

A few readers reported that they were also facing same issue on a few other Microsoft.com domains such as:

  • msdn.microsoft.com
  • support.microsoft.com
  • account.microsoft.com
  • answers.microsoft.com
  • go.microsoft.com

A reader shared that he was also facing similar issue on Lenovo Partner Hub. Another reader shared that the solution given in above mentioned article helped him in fixing a similar issue of not being able to get to the MS 365 admin console at admin.microsoft.com website. He was getting a blank screen when attempting to login using Firefox 95.0 version and the solution fixed the issue.

The problem was related to OCSP Stapling feature and disabling the feature helped in fixing the issue.

Mozilla officially acknowledged the issue and started preparing a fix for Firefox and finally the team released Firefox 95.0.1 version which comes bundled with a fix for this annoying issue.

Here is the changelog of Firefox 95.0.1 version:

  • Fixed frequent MOZILLA_PKIX_ERROR_OCSP_RESPONSE_FOR_CERT_MISSING error messages when trying to connect to various microsoft.com domains. (bug 1745600)
  • Fix for a WebRender crash on some Linux/X11 systems. (bug 1741956)
  • Fix for a frequent Windows shutdown crash. (bug 1738984)
  • Fix websites contrast issues for some Linux users with Dark mode set at OS level. (bug 1740518)

So you see there were some more known issues present in Firefox 95 version and the latest 95.0.1 version fixes all those bugs and issues.

The new Firefox 95.0.1 version is available for manual download as well as automatic upgrade. Your Firefox browser should automatically update to new version. You can manually update to new version by going to main Firefox Hamburger Menu and select Help -> About Firefox option.

You can also download full standalone offline installer of Firefox 95.0.1 version with the help of following article and run it to install or upgrade to latest version of Firefox browser.

Once you upgrade to latest version of Firefox, your problem will be resolved and now all Microsoft.com domains should open fine in Firefox.
