Known Issues in Windows 10 May 2021 Update (21H1)

If you are worried about the known issues in Windows 10 May 2021 Update (21H1), here is the list of all known issues officially announced by Microsoft:

ISSUE 1: A high-pitched noise might be heard when using 5.1 audio with certain settings:

After installing or later updates, 5.1 Dolby Digital audio may play containing a high-pitched noise or squeak in certain apps when using certain audio devices and Windows settings. Note This issue does not occur when stereo is used.

Workaround: To mitigate this issue, you can try one or more of the following:

  • Streaming the video or audio in a web browser or different app, instead of the app affected by this issue.
  • Enable Spatial sound settings by right clicking or long pressing on the volume icon in the notification area, selecting Spatial sound (Off) and selecting any of the available options.

ISSUE 2: Automatic input of Furigana might not work as expected:

When using the Microsoft Japanese Input Method Editor (IME) to enter Kanji characters in an app that automatically allow the input of Furigana characters, you might not get the correct Furigana characters and might need to enter them manually. Note for developers: Affected apps are using the ImmGetCompositionString function.

Workaround: To mitigate this issue, you can revert to a previous version of an IME (Input Method Editor) using following steps:

  • In the search box on the taskbar, type Settings, and then either select it in the list of results or select Enter.
  • Type IME settings into the search box within Settings and select the IME settings that are appropriate to your language, for example Japanese IME Settings.
  • Select General.
  • Turn on Use previous version of Microsoft IME.

  1. Update successful
    Took 25 minutes in background
    Restart took 6 minutes
    Only one glitch
I made fonts a little bigger, using advanced system font changer, this happens after every feature update. 1 minute work.
For the rest everything ok. Classic shell still works like a charm, no other setting were involved.
PS This PC shows folders again
F.Lux had to be adjusted for more colors? 4 sec.

    Haven’t found other issues (yet?)
    System feels a little smoother.
    PPS
No sign off the news and interests button on taskbar (yet?)

  2. I recently fresh installed Windows 10 21H1 (Build 19043.928) 64 bit. I detected a known issue “unexpected installer error 2502 and 2503” . This error only showing when I try to install MSI package of some software such as 7-zip, Firefox, PowerShell Core (Github), but when I install EXE package of same application, then no installer error showing, that means Windows prevents copying of temporary files in Windows “Temp” folder when try to install from MSI package only(may be security reason). But only solution is to change permission of Windows “Temp” folder:

    1. Go to directory “C:\Windows” and right click on “Temp” folder and select “Properties”.

    2. In “Security” tab, select “Advanced” then select “Add” (if “Change Permission” option showing, then select this and then select “Add”).

    3. Now select “select a principal”, type any word or name and select “check names” and click OK.

    4. In “Basic Permissions” , tick/check “Full Control” and select “OK”.

    5. Repeat the same process with built-in “Administrators” permission which is already showing in permission entry.

    6. Now select “Apply > OK” , if any warning message showing related from security, then accept this setting.

    7. Now in “Security” tab, select “Edit” option, select the permission you created in step 3 and check “Full Control” and click “Apply”.

    8. Now select “Administrators” permission, check “Full Control” and click “Apply > OK”.

This step does not affect security, but a fix of error 2502 and 2503.
