If your computer meets hardware requirements to run Windows 11, it’s eligible for Windows 11 upgrade. If your computer system is old and doesn’t meet Windows 11 system requirements, it’ll NOT be upgraded to Windows 11 automatically.

Registry Script to Block or Disable Windows 11 Automatic Upgrade

There are many registry methods to disable Windows 11 upgrade which we’ll discuss later in this article. These methods require editing Windows registry manually. If you are not comfortable with registry editing tasks, we have created a ready-made Registry script for you to do the task automatically.

You just need to download ZIP file from following link, extract it using 7-Zip or other file archive utilities and then run the extracted REG file:

It’ll ask for confirmation, accept it. Restart your computer to take effects and you have successfully disabled Windows 11 automatic upgrade in your device.

PS: The ZIP file also contains an UNDO or Restore registry script to re-enable Windows 11 automatic upgrade. If you decide to enable Windows 11 upgrade again in future, you can use the UNDO script.

1. Type regedit in RUN or Start search box and press Enter. It’ll open Registry Editor.

2. Now go to following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows

3. Create a new key under Windows key and set its name as WindowsUpdate. If the key is already present, skip to next step.

4. Now in right-side pane, create a new DWORD DisableOSUpgrade and set its value to 1

Disable Windows 11 Upgrade Using AllowOSUpgrade Registry Key

1. Now go to following key in Registry Editor:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate

2. Create a new key under WindowsUpdate key and set its name as OSUpgrade

3. Now in right-side pane, create a new DWORD AllowOSUpgrade and set its value to 0

Disable Windows 11 Upgrade Using UpgradeAvailable Registry Key

1. Go to following key in Registry Editor:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\

2. Create a new key under Setup key and set its name as UpgradeNotification

3. Select UpgradeNotification key and in right-side pane, create a new DWORD UpgradeAvailable and set its value to o

Disable Windows 11 Upgrade from Microsoft Store

Windows 11 upgrade might also be offered via Microsoft Store. Following registry tweak will help you in disabling the upgrade offer from Microsoft Store:

1. Go to following key in Registry Editor:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft

2. Create a new key under Microsoft key and set its name as WindowsStore

3. Select WindowsStore key and in right-side pane, create a new DWORD DisableOSUpgrade and set its value to 1

  1. Will any of these anti-Win11 registry changes prevent Windows 10 from accepting security or feature updates?

  2. I have run the script from this article to block the Windows 11 upgrade. Today I had a notification in the task bar that “Upgrade to Windows 11 is ready for your PC” I confirmed that the above registry keys are correct.
