Bypass TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, Processor Check for Windows 11 Installation

UPDATE: Some new working methods to bypass Windows 11 hardware requirements at installation or upgrade time are available in following article:

[Fix] This PC doesn’t Currently Meet Windows 11 System Requirements

If you are trying to install Windows 11 in your computer system and you are receiving “This PC can’t run Windows 11” error message at installation time, this tutorial will help you in fixing the issue. If you have an unsupported or incompatible device and want to install Windows 11 forcefully, this article will provide a workaround to you to bypass or disable hardware requirements check by Windows 11 setup wizard and successfully install or upgrade to Windows 11 without any problem or error message.

We know that Windows 11 operating system comes with higher hardware specifications or system requirements. Your computer system must contain TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot feature enabled to be able to install and support Windows 11.

Following are minimum system requirements to run Windows 11:

Windows 11 Minimum System Requirements or Hardware Specifications

If you try to install or upgrade to Windows 11, the setup wizard first detects or scans your system hardware at installation time and if it finds unsupported or incompatible device, it blocks the installation process and displays “This PC can’t run Windows 11” error message. Your device might be incompatible with Windows 11 if it lacks one or more system requirements. For example, if your computer system doesn’t have TPM version 2.0 or Secure Boot option is not turned on in your BIOS settings, the Windows 11 setup will throw error message and you’ll be unable to install Windows 11 in your machine.

There are 2 cases when the “This PC can’t run Windows 11” error message occurs:

CASE 1: You are trying to upgrade Windows 10 to Windows 11 and the error message is shown by Windows 11 setup assistant tool inside Windows 10 running as shown in following screenshot. Windows 11 Update assistant is showing “The PC must support TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot” errors while trying to install Windows 11 from Windows 10 running:

CASE 2: You are trying to clean install or fresh install Windows 11 using its offline ISO in a bootable USB drive and the error message is displayed outside Windows running as shown in following screenshot. Windows setup wizard is showing “This PC doesn’t meet the minimum system requirements to install this version of Windows” error message while trying to clean install Windows 11:

FUN FACT: I noticed that if you try to install Windows 11 virtually in Virtual Box, Hyper-V or other virtualization software, the setup doesn’t check for hardware requirements or TPM and you’ll not get any error message. Windows 11 successfully installed in virtual machine.

Although to be able to install or upgrade to Windows 11, you’ll have to enable TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot features in your machine but there is a registry tweak which can be used to disable hardware requirements detection and bypass TPM, Secure Boot and RAM amount check in Windows 11 installation. This registry trick can be used to install or upgrade to Windows 11 on unsupported or incompatible devices.

Actually this registry tweak utilizes a “LabConfig” key which has been created or programmed for lab testing purposes so that computer manufacturer companies and network administrators can check their system hardware and software programs compatibility with Windows 11.

So using the Registry tweak to bypass error message and hardware check can cause issues while using Windows 11 on unsupported devices. Read following before going further:

If you also face “This PC can’t run Windows 11” error message at Windows 11 installation time and want to get rid of the error message and complete Windows 11 installation, following steps will help you:

CASE 1: Fix “This PC can’t run Windows 11” Error Message Inside Windows 10

If you are trying to upgrade your Windows 10 device to Windows 11 via Windows Updates or ISO file and receiving “This PC can’t run Windows 11” error message, do as following to remove the error message and force Windows 11 installation:

1. Close Windows 11 update assistant window by clicking on Cancel button.

2. Open Registry Editor by typing regedit in RUN dialog box and press Enter. Now go to following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup

3. Right-click on Setup key and select New -> Key option. Set new key name as LabConfig and press Enter key.

4. Select LabConfig key and in right-side pane, create following 3 new DWORDs and set their values to 1 to bypass or disable TPM 2.0, Secure Boot and RAM amount check respectively:

BypassTPMCheck

BypassSecureBootCheck

To create the DWORDs, right-click on empty area in right-side pane and select “New -> DWORD (32-bit) Value” option.

Now try to install Windows 11 again using Windows Updates or Setup.exe file and it’ll not show any error message and you’ll be able to upgrade to Windows 11 this time. You can also try to restart your machine and then check for Windows Updates to reinstall Windows 11.

CASE 2: Fix “This PC can’t run Windows 11” Error Message Outside Windows 10

If you are trying to clean install Windows 11 by using a bootable USB drive outside Windows 10 running, following steps will help you in fixing the issue:

1. When the setup wizard displays “This PC can’t run Windows 11” error message, press SHIFT+F10 keys together. It’ll launch Command Prompt window on the top of setup wizard window.

PS: Pressing SHIFT+F10 hotkey inside Windows setup is a hidden secret method to launch Command Prompt as Administrator. This method has been implemented for recovery and troubleshooting purposes for advanced and expert users. If you remember, we have used the same trick in Method 4 of this tutorial long time back in good ol’ Windows XP days.

2. Now type regedit in Command Prompt window and press Enter. It’ll open Registry Editor.

3. Now you can create above mentioned “LabConfig” key and required DWORDs (BypassTPMCheck, BypassSecureBootCheck and BypassRAMCheck) in Registry Editor. (Follow Steps 2-4 given in CASE 1 method).

4. After creating required DWORDs, close Registry Editor and Command Prompt window.

5. Now click on Close button present in setup wizard window titlebar. Windows Setup will show confirmation message “Are you sure you want to quit?”, click on Yes button.

You’ll now see “Install Now” window again. Again follow the setup process such as selecting installation type, etc and now Windows 11 will install without any error message as we have disabled hardware check using Registry tweak.

  1. Bonjour VG,
    Merci.

    Translation:

    Hello VG,
your article is well written and easy to implement. I am an insider dev and my computer is already running windows 11. When win 11 is official, I will have to reinstall win 10 clean. Will your article be valid? Thank you.

  2. Are you giving the people false hope? Sure these tweaks and fixes will work for the pre-release versions. But surely also the loopholes all will be closed! when the full version is released.

  3. Guys. Lets wait for the final release. Since the registry trick has been created for manufacturer testing, may be it keeps working in final public version as well? I can confirm the trick is working in current testing builds of Windows 11.

  4. Vishal,

I just did the registry tweaks, double checked them and the PC Health Check app still gave me the “PC can’t run Windows 11” error message.

  5. Checked further. The described registry tweak was posted by ONE website, and has been endlessly posted now by a hundred others, including here. It will NOT work on the official final build when it is released. So what is the point. Am surprised Vishal also fell for this.

  6. ^^ Actually I posted the method in this separate article because many people were asking for it via emails and I was sharing the method with them. Creating separate article will help people in easily finding the method.

The method works 100%. I have tried myself and several readers have confirmed it.

Regarding whether the method will work in final release or not, we can’t say anything at the moment. I believe the method will keep working as it’ll help companies and admins. If the method stops working, we’ll help other workarounds for sure.

PS: I shared this method when Windows 11 preview build was released in following article:

    https://www.askvg.com/should-you-install-windows-11-on-unsupported-hardware-devices/

Now moved the method from above mentioned article to this main article to help readers. 🙂

Using SHIFT+F10 key combination to launch regedit and other tools is not new. I’m using it since many years and also used it long time back in following tutorial: 😉

    @Don
Don’t use PC Health Check app. Microsoft has discontinued it as it was giving errors and false results to many users. The registry method given in this article will work during Windows 11 Setup only.

    @guyonnet
Let’s wait for the final release. 😉

  7. I can confirm this trick works. Thanks VG.

Oh. I was also one of them who asked about it to VG. 😀

  8. Hi.
My Laptop has everything up and running, including TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot.
The only error I am getting is Your Processor is not supported for Windows 11,
    I have;
    (Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6300U CPU @ 2.40GHz 2.50 GHz)
Can anyone please guide me how I can bypass this and upgrade to Windows 11.
    Thanks a lot in advance.

  9. This methodology no longer works with direct upgrades of Windows 11 using Windows Update. It still checks for TPM 2.0 and gives that as the reason for failure, even though the above registry entry for it is present. Not even the Insider Preview build 22471.1000 will install using it, even if you already have Windows 11 installed. Every build after 22000 so far has failed to install in spite of the LabConfig TPM registry bypass.

  10. It still does not work, I have both registry methods in use and still get the Cannot Install messages.

  11. It is working for a clean ISO installation of Win11 Pro in October 2021. Thank you. I’ve used the registry trick.

  12. please provide ready-made Registry script reg file for this so we can execute it during the shift f10 session. thanks.

  13. I do not wish to run Windows 11 at this time on this PC. I built the computer myself about nine years ago and I’m sure trying the listed forced update methods (ON MY COMPUTER – not a blanket statement- will cause just as many or more problems than when I converted this machine from Windows 7 to Windows 10.) I had way more problems on another, older PC trying to update it to Windows 7. Had to replace graphics card on older machine and install many missing Windows Updates manually on both systems.
What I want to do want is to stop seeing the messages that “This computer will not run Windows 11” and “Run PC Health Check” every time I go the Windows update page under Settings.
Is there a safe way to either remove those notices or cause them not to display. Every time I search for a method online, my result is one of the ways to bypass Windows 11 controls and force an installation of Windows 11 on a non-compliant PC. I just want to turn off or hide those annoying messages. While I don’t like using REGEDIT, I have done so in the past if that’s what is necessary to stop seeing those messages. Thanks in advance for your help.

    Thanks, Ron

  14. ^^ The message is shown because one or more updates installed the tool to detect the hardware requirements. You’ll need to uninstall those updates and it’ll be pretty hard to find those updates.

  15. Will if I make these changes it will apply to the Valorant game because it also requires active tpm and secure boot
