Download Windows 7 Offline ISO Files for Clean Install or Upgrade

Many times we want to perform a clean installation of Windows in our computers to fix various PC problems and performance issues. Installing a fresh Windows OS in computers always make them faster and more responsive.

But to install fresh Windows, we need Windows setup disc. Usually computers come with Windows setup or recovery/repair discs which can help users in installing or repairing Windows.

But sometimes users don’t get the setup media with their computers or they don’t have access to the setup media. In such situations, they can’t install Windows in their computers.

In past, Microsoft used to provide free Windows 7 and Windows Vista setup media (ISO files) to users which have been mentioned in following articles:

But it seems Microsoft has removed the files from server and the company is no longer providing Windows Vista and Windows 7 setup ISO files for download to public.

Recently Microsoft released an official tool to download Windows 8.1 setup ISO and create installation media:

Following the same tradition Microsoft has created a webpage to allow Windows 7 users to download Windows 7 setup ISO files for free.

Microsoft Software Recovery” page allows people to download Windows 7 setup ISO file so that they can create installation media such as DVD or bootable USB drive to install Windows 7 in their computers.

You just need a working and fast Internet connection to download Windows 7 setup ISO file which is around 2.0-3.5 GB in size.

To be able to download the ISO file, you’ll need to verify your Windows 7 product key. Once the key is verified, you’ll be able to download Windows 7 setup ISO file.

You can also use the same webpage to send an email to your email ID containing Windows 7 setup ISO download link which can be used to download the ISO file later. The download link will work for 24 hours only.

Interested people can visit the official Microsoft page to download Windows 7 setup ISO files:

NOTE: The above method can be used to download Windows 7 setup ISO file for Retail product keys and upgrade copies only. It doesn’t seem to work for OEM license keys i.e. pre-installed Windows OS.

After downloading the setup ISO file, you can burn the ISO file to a DVD using any burning software and then install Windows 7 using it.

Or you can create bootable USB drive to install Windows 7 in your computer without optical drive:

  1. Sorry, But since 1 february Microsoft has renoved digitalriver iso’s for Windows 7 as it;s not anymore comercialized. Some links for images without SP1 still may work, but not for long.

  2. @costea The serial key is on the sticker fixed to your computer. Every Windows 7 computer comes with a serial sticker.

  3. It is possible to buy say win 7 pro 64-bit edition retail at shops either online or offline?

    Thanks.

  4. Can same steps be used for setting up Windows 8.1? How can I create a bootable usb or .iso with my own cd key so I don’t have to manually type in the serial key each time I reformat my pc?

  5. I would like to know if this method always provides a version with all the latest updates at the time of downloading, .NET Framework 4.5.2 and Internet Explorer 11 ? Or is this the exact same old garbage that was found on the Digital River servers that had a version from 2011 that took 6 hours to update after installing.. I have a Windows 7 dvd that I bought back in 2009, I just hate the long update, when there should be a legal way to install in 20 minutes.

  6. The recovery site is broken, the languages are wrong for the keys. U.S. keys work with Finnish and so on.. They are working to fix I have been told. As for the site, it is for non-OEM versions and the labels on computers and msdn keys will not get you an ISO. You have to have a key for the standalone versions.

  7. MW site does not allow if I have win 7 pre installed on my laptop. when i enter product key it says this is a pre installed software and dont go to next step to download win 7 iso.. kindly provide some solution as i want to download it early.

    thanks for ur valuable time

  8. when i purchased the laptop it was Ubuntu based. Now i want use windows OS, from where i can get the product key.

  9. I just came across your outstanding site today. My Toshiba is being contrary. I reset it back from Win 10 and need to do a clean OEM Re-install. Unfortunately, my “0” button doesn’t work for the factory Reset. My Image is gone for some reason. I can’t download the ISO files because my key verification says my Laptop 7 Home Premium is a Pre-install. I have to order a software recovery USB from Toshiba USA. Toshiba.de won’t help me here in Germany because I have an American model. So, I did use your link to make a Bootable USB. Thank you and I subscribed to your newsletter. Keep up the good work!

  10. I am so sick of windows…. I hated it when it first came out, and I still freaking hate windows.
